Jobs said Flash wasn't suited for the iPhone as a full version (bad battery life and performance), and the mobile version Adobe currently had to offer them wasn't good enough. He was looking for something in between, optimised for optimal iPhone performance, but not looking and/or operating like something from the early 90's.

Less than two months ago, Shantanu Narayen (the president and chief executive officer of Adobe) stated this:

"It's a hard technical challenge, and that's part of the reason Apple and Adobe are collaborating," Narayen told Bloomberg Television. "The ball is in our court. The onus is on us to deliver."

Android's been out for about 5 months.

The iPhone doesn't have flash yet because Apple is so obsessed with controlling everything about their phone that anything beyond games, tip calculators, and notepads get rejected from the app store.
