ASUS quietly reveals Atom N280-equipped Eee PC 1002H
Till now, the only N280-packin' Eee PC of any stature was the amazingly long-lasting 1000HE. Thankfully for everyone who appreciates minute improvements in speed, ASUS has just pushed out another with the mildly quicker chip: the Eee PC 1002H. Not the 1002HA, mind you -- just the 1002H. Outside of the new CPU, however, most everything remains exactly the same from the 'HA' edition, including a 10-inch LED-backlit WSVGA display, 1GB of DDR2 RAM, a 160GB hard drive, 1.3 megapixel webcam, inbuilt stereo speakers, a multicard reader, VGA out, three USB 2.0 sockets and audio in / out jacks. There's no mention of a price or release date, but it should arrive in Pearl White, Pink and Black whenever launch day comes.

What's the difference between this and a 1000HE?
The n280 perhaps?
The 1000HE certainly has the N280 (as stated even in the article), but does this have Intel's newer chipset? If not, the only difference is form factor and perhaps battery life.
I'd take 2GB RAM over a CPU upgrade.
You do realize if ASUS loaded the netbook with 2 gb of ram they would be required to load Windows Vista on it right?
I don't, and neither does any mildly intelligent individual, because it takes less than 5 minutes to add one extra GB strip of DDR2 but a lot more sweat and (possibly) tears to change the CPU.
The idea is to become the highest ranked not the highest on the list... and according to your nick you are 4th not first
lol engadget.. filters out firsters now?!
here's the brushed aluminized black one for $400

uuh thats not an 1002H it's a 1002HA they are different

the 1002HA has an n270 atom not the n280
this aint bad.
im in the market, yet another one to add to my list.
Does it run OS X?
How is this different from the 1000HE again?
I believe its a more sleeker and lighter variant.
Yeah you are right...
1002H is 264x181x27.6 mm, 1.2 kg, 5hr battery
1000HE is 266x191.2x28.5-38 mm, 1.45 kg, 9.5 hr battery.
Hmm, I'd take a bit more weight and thickness to get the much better battery life the 1000HE seems to have. : /
Change the ugly logo already.
It's amazing how these companies like Dell and ASUS crank out models every 2-3 months, but Apple releases a new or updated Mac a year.
Without emphasizing, Asus seem to come out with a few products every month, let alone 3 months.
Maybe it's because Apple has like 5 models and those other companies have like 50?
Asus's model numbers are nuts. And the data on their website is apparently not up-to-date. For the 1000H, it says Atom N280 in one place but N270 in the comparison chart. I was getting ready to pull the trigger on a 1000HE but am now totally confused.
Oops. I missed that there was a "2" hanging off the end of that model number.
ASUS is now offering online classes for learning ASUS netbook model numbers.
This one looks very nice!
Asus sure makes a lot of netbooks and really should limit a max of 3-5, but other than that they make great products. My Eee works great!
So the one in the picture has "chicklet" keys and the 1002HA has the more traditional keyboard? Is that another design difference or just an error in the picture?
No 720p h.264 decoding so not interested. I've a wad of cash burning a hole in my pocket and I can't seem to find a decent replacement for my current netbook.
Seriously, how hard would it be to make a platform based on Ion or GMA500 or VIA or the countless other vendors who claim to do this.
I'm with you brother! pocket, burning, need HiDef.
Quiiiiickly please HP, Samsung, anyone.....
Is it just me or does that crappy eee pc splash screen that they always put on the marketing shots make you NOT want to buy one? The splash screen just makes it look more and more like a child's toy. Hire a graphic artist asus! The crappy single color font, and horrible gradient in the background makes me feel like I'm looking at cutting edge late 80s graphics.
Here's my take: The 1002H is like the 1000HE (chicklet kb) but with the full N280 chipset (vs. the N280 with N270 chipset in the 1000HE) and a lesser battery (5 hrs vs. 9+).
Good job, Sherlock!
Why can't ANY manufacturer out there post the specs on their Wifi chips? Customers would like to know things like if it supports packet injection or not. Atheros, Ralink only etc. "80211b/g/n" is hardly any information at all :/
Does anyone know the specs on the wifi chip for these? I know the eee-box has RaLink, runs on rt2860sta (linux), and does not support packet injection.
I am in the market for getting one of these netbook, but the the various model #'s its really hard and confusing as to which is the best choice. I and really tipping for the Asus.
After doing some comparison shopping, I eventually settled on the 1000HA as the price/performance "sweet spot". It cost me just under $338 total on BuyDig (free shipping and no tax since BuyDig is out-of-state for me). That's the 10" screen model, too.
WSVGA == don't care about this model.
WXGA would make it interesting.
WHERE IS THE T101??????
They aren't netbooks anymore. There small laptops. They got rid of the Netbooks when they started putting old fashioned, spinning 24 hours a day hard drives in "Small Laptops." The drift away from 7 and 8.9 screens and SSD's took away the NETBOOK label.
If you want packing sniffing drivers you need to install the Omnipeek tool drivers. That enables packet sniffing:
