You think we can put a man on the moon but not figure out how to make those tires roll uphill? They're not defying gravity; in fact, it's gravity that makes them do what they do. They put weights in the tires toward the top. The successive impacts are enough to push the weight past the balance point causing the tires to roll. The combination of the amount of weight, the incline, and the fact that the tires are, you know, round, is what does the trick.

The commercial, unlike far too many before and after it, is very real. A guy I work with has a son who bought one of the first generation Insights (I think his is a 2000). He *consistently* gets over 70MPG (US). If you ask me this new Insight release is LAME. Honda is supposed to be driving innovation, and turns around almost an ** ENTIRE DECADE ** later to release the SAME make and model of a car that gets just over HALF the mileage of the first generation? This is ridiculous. This government money going to make "greener" cars is only being wasted if they give it to any of the big manufacturers. I think they need to give the money to the guys who are ** actually innovating ** like Tesla Motors, Lotus and several other manufacturers who are going to be releasing fully electric cars that will help us become NONdependent on oil. Car manufacturers really get raped by these oil companies and government, not to mention the economy, and now even people like you; even if they are trying to do something good for they environment.

mynk

Comments on

Mynk: Could you tell me where you learned that? Yes, the Insight was butt ugly, but heck, so is the Prius!

The only reason Toyota is beating them with the Prius is because it is now "cool to be green." If gas prices had skyrocketed in the early 2000s, the Insight would be WAY ahead of Toyota's Prius now. The original Insight was just too early for it's time, it wasn't cool to be green when they released it. The original Insight got almost TWICE the mileage (over 70MPG) of a ridiculously lame Prius.

Get your head out of the sand, the Prius isn't doing ANYONE a favor.
