It comes down to Nokia sticking in features that, coupled with the providers data plan, would lose them money if EVERYONE used them. I never send text messages anymore because I've always got an IM app running. I don't call internationally because I can be reached on Fring's Skype app. I can play multi-player online games and download music on the go...and T-Mobile does NOT want that. They want me to buy java games from them, not native s60 N-Gage games right from the developers. They want me to use THEIR £1 a track music service, not the 0.79p a track Nokia or Amazon services. If I was still on the stock T-Mobile firmware I'd not have access to most of these.

This is not the old flabby squishy resistive touchscreen of old.
This is really smart, razor thin touch screen.
The tech involved has evolved.

Believe me, I agonized over this myself, as it was a major sticking point.

I have an ITouch and I love how accurate the touch screen is.
I wanted an Iphone if im honest, but was not willing to get the contract involved.

But in the end, I plumped for the Nokia 5800 on a non contract basis.
And I love it !!!

Its quick, responsive, easy to load with music ( the sound is Honestly better than my ITouch)
And even watching BSG S4 has been a pleasure !!

Wonderful Phone.

It does have some bugs, like the screen rotation can be sluggish, but its not life and death.
And the MMS and SMS is a breeze, I use t9 predictive text.

Only bad part is the browser, its not even close to the I touch/Iphone
But download Opera mini and its not too bad.

Seriously, I've used a lot of touchscreen phones and PDAs, and I can't say that things have gotten much better for resistive touchscreens since my first Palm m505 I got back in 2002-2003. The same goes for the Sony Ericsson P900, P910 and P990 which I also owned until I finally realised how much they all sucked and bought an N95 instead. But capacitive touch changed it all and combined with a good UI without small buttons or pop-up menus, it's spot on.

Mark Anderson has a point that resistive is good for handwriting recognition, but since I'm not azn I don't.

Seriously, The resitive/capactive argument doesnt come into play on the Nokia 5800.

Its honestly a wonderful screen, and is not like the old / recent Bad Capactive screens.
