Although Avid is available for Windows, most production houses in Hollywood use Macs, especially sound studios, since the latency is better in OS X because of Core Audio. And then there's Logic Pro, which is only available for Macs.

Persian - the prices haven't been released yet. Starting at $2000 does not mean that the 2k workstation will have the high end nehalem processors (The web site states that clock speed starts at 2ghz which suggests the xeon proc that's about $100 cheaper than the one in the mac pro) and you are batshit if you think that the dual quadro gfx cards are gonna be on the entry level model.

Still pretty lame if the only reason for buying a more expensive mac is apple proprietary software and os, especially if you can get similar software or even better for pc.
