Some more tidbits from the Acer event: new
all-in-ones. The eMachines EZ1600 (pictured) boasts a 18.5-inch 16:9 screen and up to 720p resolution, an Intel Atom N270 processor with 945GSE chipset, 2 slots of SO DIMM memory, up to 160GB HDD, DVD-RW, Wi-Fi and a card reader. No price or availability, but you'll be able to pick one up in either silver or black. On the classier side of things, we've got Acer Aspire Z5600 AIO with a 24-inch multitouch display that outputs a 1080p picture. It's got the "latest generation of Intel," up to 2TB hard disk space, a TV tuner, webcam and DVD/Blu-ray writer combo drive. Color us intrigued, but we'll await judgment until we see some price points -- if the
Timeline's any indication, we might be in a for a pleasant surprise.
OH COOL NEW SONY VAIO'S!!
Oh.... wait what?
... but it's an Acer
My last laptop was a Gateway.... never again.
My wife's last desktop was an eMachine... never again.
No problems with Acer though!
I've experienced huge issues with an Acer 20" laptop.
From factory on day one it never had a decent webcam (terrible refresh) and A2DP would never ever work. I've setup skype and bt on 100s of other machines with little to no issues.
Acer said only "tech support" they could provide was for me to send anchor (I mean laptop) back to factory for re-imaging.
This is NOT tech support and not a company I feel comfortable dealing with.
@MikeKlein
And now you know why Acer doesn't sell anymore of those 21" laptops.
@mr niblewick
I have a Gateway laptop and i absolutely love it. I bought it right before Christmas. I want to buy another one with a better processor though.
Why not just buy a new CPU off Newegg and put it in your current Desktop? It'll save you hundreds. To check your CPU Socket, Download CPU-Z and then search newegg for a processor in your price range(Should be no more than 300) with your socket, and you're all set to go
Cause my desktop computer already has a E6850 C2D in it. I need a faster processor for my Gateway laptop and the socket only supports a Pentium Dual-Core. They don't make C2D for my socket on the laptop.
It says Acer, Gateway, and eMachines. Not Acer alone.
Reading comprehension fail.
Too bad Acer owns both of them.
I'm using an Acer laptop right now that I got for $500, I love it. Absolutely looking forward to what they have coming. Great product for the $$.
so are those netbooks ion netbooks?
Acer is the future of computing.
I expect them to be the number one USA consumer PC brand by 2010.
(I could be wrong but nice work Acer)
I say Asus is going to get closer to number 1 faster than Acer will.
Keep on waitin'
Its gonna be a tie i believe. ASUS and Acer both have great desktop computers, ASUS laptops are some of the best, despite higher priced (not including netbooks) and Acer desktops are awesome, but Acer really lacks in the laptop design department.
If that's the case, we're in serious trouble.
When the fuck did Gateway start putting Core 2 Quads in eMachines? The barely use low end Athlon X2's for their "Top of the Line" computers, and even then, they are only rated at 2.1GHz with a lame ass L2. Most of their line has crappy single core processors.
Gosh more hot babes... Acer please don't kill me, i ain't got any more juice left in me. The $669 netbooks with blazimg specs and a killer price, milked me dry. No no more... Arghh... No more babes... In your face apple gay fanboys, check out the number of hot babes choices i have... I can never give up my freedom of choice for steve jobs balls or a $1000 fruit logo.
Sorry? Can I get a translator over here?
Whoa!! Just a minute ago, this is what the article said
"Some more tidbits from the Acer event: new all-in-ones. So far, we've got an 18.5-inch eMachines-branded EZ1600 desktop that displays 720p and a 23-inch multitouch variant, both of which the company's touting as Windows 7 ready and boast processor options ranging from Intel Atom to Core 2 Quad -- no AMD chips here, unlike Gateway's ZX2300 AIO. Details are pretty scant beyond that. Also announced were 10.1-inch and 11.6-inch netbooks, both reportedly 23.55 mm thick. We're listening to the Q&A now and will hopefully get some more details shortly."
Apparently Engadget doesn't know how to add an update, nor do they allow us commenters to edit their comments.
this will guaranteed fail n tank if priced $1 over apple mac.
I dream about killing you.
Blu ray, TV Tuner, 2TB of hard drive space, Quad Core, and Multitouch, and you call this a fail?
The only thing that fails is your excessive fanboyism.
I would definitely buy one of these AIO nettop touch-whatever with a 2cored Atom; problem is that I keep on seeing them all over the interwebs but nowhere in the real world (is it really real after all?).
Manufacturers can't expect people (or at least me) to buy on line something never seen, tried, or touched at least once.
Morever why nobody is making a nettop based affordable machine based on Windows Surface? The tech is the same as the one required for these touch screens nettops but the product would be waaaaayy cooler and the geek creed it would confer would be stellar.
C'mon , modders of the world, Unite! And let's get the job done.
It's what the Gateway ONE should have been! (yes, they actually still sell those!)
@RoboDan: fail
Yah, they do look kinda, well...tripodesque, but the rounded bottom just doesn't do it for me.
that posted in the complete wrong area...
Sideburns went out of style didn't they?
Ever since their ion nettop came out (few minutes ago), every other nettop/all-in-one sporting an Intel 945GSE chipset just seems so played and weak.
this site is preety cool and the method does work.
Guys listen to this guy he knows alot.
Thanks
