This is an extremely clever design. I sew a lot and would have never come up with using the different colors of PVC in layers like that. I admire the 3-D creativity here.

2. PVC is REALLY hard to work with. Stitching by hand will leave you with sore fingers, to say the least. This however, was done with a machine...so easy right? Not so much. The PVC sticks to the parts of the machine that other materials simply glide along. This causes the wobbly lines on the curved portions. In addition, the sticking of the PVC makes lock stitching (when you see the thread doubled up, it's from going backward over where you just sewed to make sure it doesn't come undone) REALLY hard. It also messes with the tensions on the machine (makes it look uneven).

3. I'd have to look closer, but it looks like they used standard thread. I always use either denim topstich thread or button/craft thread when working with PVC, ESPECIALLY if you're using a contrast like that.

All-in-all I think it's a great piece of work, and I might just make one for myself!!

Rizzy

Comments on Homemade NES purse is so voguish, so for sale

um. i sew a lot myself, and i think the main issue here is not the stitching (which really isn't -too- bad) but the fact that the fabric was cut so laughably terribly. the pieces themselves are crooked, and that of course can easily be remedied by doing some quick hand stitches to make sure the pieces are in the proper positions before machine-sewing. not to mention the fact that it doesn't even look much like a real controller.

$40 for this trash? you've got to be kidding. besides, NES purses are a dime a dozen these days; here's something that's truly unique: http://nintendo.joystiq.com/2006/10/27/homemade-ds-case-brings-back-retro/

mr_beetty

Comments on Homemade NES purse is so voguish, so for sale

I'm partial to my Nintendo messenger bag that I got a few years back. It's black, has the Nintendo logo on a sliding shoulderpad on the strap, has little zipper pulls with the Nintendo logo, and a rubber NES controller sewn onto the front flap for a subtle, yet awesome gamer-girl touch.

I think the best part is it is really cool, for guys or girls. Any time I've been in public with it, I get a lot of compliments on it, and frankly I think it looks a lot cooler than the above purse. I mean, if you're going to do the NES controller at least make the pieces symmetrical and look real :(

Not to mention....that bag doesn't look very sturdy.
