Since not everyone has a monitor or other display with HDMI, the OPTION to use VGA is there.  This lets you use either one, or both in a multi-monitor setup.  I know that these "options" make the world a vast and scary place but open your mind and just enjoy it. Huge disappointment as the keyboard is very mushy. Press the middle and I feel about 20-30mm of give.. and the ultra thin lid feels oh so disappointingly flimsy.
