We have our own "node" or w/e you call it and do not share the line with Albany. When TWC first promised us RoadRunner it was about 4 years before they actually got it to us but it was worth the wait because it was basically uncapped, or at least well above the speeds I am capped at now.

The problem is they havent invested any money in equipment or infrastructure and the costs keep going up. My DVR box and cable modem could possibly be wooden. Both suck equally and require constant hard reboots. The problem is Time Warner's totally ridiculous cap levels. They were being totally disingenuous.. Their highest level was going to be 40GB -- then later changed to 100GB for $75+. Comcast offers 250GB for $40.

What TWC should have done is had a progressive cap where the ~$40 mainstream level was like 200GB+, and then moving upwards to where the highest speed "turbo" (aka 10mbps pathetic) had a cap of say 500-700GB, and then every 20GB over that is $1.That would reflect the REAL price of bandwidth.

Those bastards act like they aren't making any profit right now and need more money to do the simple DOCSIS 3.0 install. Sorry, that is the whole point of INVESTMENT. What good would super-fast internet be if they had a super-low bandwidth cap on it? It would be useless. Great, so I could consume my 100GB cap REALLY fast and then be done for the month or pay exorbitant overages. Sweet. Everybody is talking about their 6-7mbps connections like it's a big deal. The US is WAY behind a lot of other countries when it comes to bandwidth. Not only are we behind, but companies are complaining that we aren't getting charged enough. Just usual American corporate greed. If we don't pay more they threaten to not give us the high speeds that a lot of other coutries are already using. Pretty soon cell phones will have access to speeds equal to TWC highest internet speed. That's pathetic. All they're doing is holding out for more money and they are not going to get it. If they sit idely by like this and refuse to upgrade the network, well they're going to loose out and screw themselves over more than they already have. I didn't think TWCs stock value could drop any lower but it looks like they want it to.

Don't tell me it's because it costs too much TWC. But we have to drop the patently-lame apple/orange comparisons of the US to other countries! When this comparison is brought up, the countries always touted are Japan and South Korea - two countries that are microscopic in size when compared the continental US. Plus, the relationship in those countries between the telcos and governments is so incestous, there is no real way of figuring out where one ends and the other begins. How that benefits the end user in the long run is beyond me, and it merely replaces one form of monopoly with another. All we can hope is someone like Google will step up and announce "We want to be your big, dumb Internet pipe and we'll bill you like water and electric companies do: pay for what you use with no limit other than that of the physical infrastructure". Of course, given the built-in monopolies on the cable plants, this will have to be done wirelessly with all its' inherent drawbacks.

TNP

Comments on

touche, TW. but it won't matter if all your customers leave you.

maveric101

Comments on

Dear TWC - do you think it is smart to completely upset all your customers?
