The problem with touchscreens on a traditional display isn't a software one - it's a problem with how humans are formed and the design of the display itself. In some respects the problems with such monitors are addressed by laying it flat-ish but then I'm bent over it and my back starts to hurt. Touch on a desktop is not meant for prolonged input. Rather its for quick access. You walk up to the screen, touch the Media Player icon, flick with your finger until you get to the icon for the album you want to play, and tap it to start.

Come on people... most of us use computers for more than typing long Word documents and crating spreadsheets. We ue them to look up traffic or weather, we use them to stream music or video, to flip through photo albums. For this kind of usage touch is actually intuitive, just like on an iPhone (just for the record I don't own any Apple products). The HP TouchSmart's come with custom media management software and I'd hope that the Dell would as well since you really need custom software to get the most out of these things (i.e. big icons suitable to be pointed to by fingers, etc). I had the hp touchsmart for about a week before returning it (it was very poorly designed and underpowered). Touch comes in really handy when doing things like Rosetta Stone, simple games like solitaire and drawing (for the kids). Call it a gimmick, but it's really a cool factor that makes the computer a little more user friendly. This looks like a decent model, but the 19" screen is too small for me to even think about it. I'll definitely buy another touchscreen all in one as soon as a good enough one is available. It will be the family computer for my kids and wife to use. Everyone has their own desktops now, but eventually they'll need to be replaced and I'd rather keep up with one really nice machine than 4 separate machines that don't quite get used enough.

Jonyah

Comments on

i like it alot but i would have the screen destroyed in days, the amount of screens i have punch and broke (my knuckles) its like 7. but the spec is much better than my computer... we will have to see how much money i can get

KRIS_C_123

Comments on

Maybe you should invest in some anger management classes instead of punching, destroying and rebuying screens all the time?

L

Comments on

who said anything about being angry??

KRIS_C_123

Comments on

I have been waiting for the Dell Smear to be released, when's the relaese date?

Timmy

Comments on

I think a lot of people are overthinking this. The touch is an addition, not a replacement. Efficients and ergonomic, are, at least in my case, not a factor here. I'd most likely keep typing with my keyboard, and making most selection and motions with the mouse. but sometimes touch would come in to ease things. Opening up quick favorites, launching programs, etc. I quick note, like in the video. Checking the weather, playing/pausing music, etc. I see this more as a kitchen counter thing. On my way out of the house in the morning, a few cliks to check the weather or something. No need to have my hands up for 30 minutes to the screen.

NickB
