Caltrain sighting suggests Palm Pre may be real
Hard to believe, we know, but another seemingly real Pre in the wild finally has us thinking that this whole "webOS" business Palm keeps yammering about might be an actual product after all. Time will tell.

why wouldn't it be real?
Chris isn't seriously saying that, it's more of a comment on how long it's been from announcement to release.
However there was that whole Foleo thing, although their investors are probably way happier with the Pre.
@Tonicboy
Me, buddy. I am strictly interested in phones that kill other phones.
Seeing all these people with Pres is filling me with RRRAGE. I WANT A PRE NOW!!!
I don't know why aj121489 was ranked down, I thought he made a fair point.
Seems real
For all of you praying this will kill the iPhone...keep on praying. Once iPhone hits other networks like Verizon and Tmobile - people will be like: "Pre what?" and on top of that, Apple will have a NEW iPhone in AT&T with features current iPhone owners will want - which will cause them to put their 3G's on Ebay for less than $300 - so they can take that money that I got from the auction and buy the newest iPhone.
oh shut up, you as bad as the pre guy in the other post talking about waiting for the "fruity" people to come in and defend apple
you're as*
:(
I don't see why everyone ranked Quantumphysics down, he (or she) has a point. Before I start I wanna establish that I'm neutral, don't have an iPhone, don't plan on getting it, don't love it, don't hate it, it's just whatever, and the same goes for the Pre. But many (I might even go as far as most, but will leave it at many) people out there, both tech and non-tech inclined, see Apple and start drooling just because it's Apple. It's more about the image than the hardware in particular. The iPhone has the fan base and there isn't much that can be done to sway the Apple fanboys as most of you should be able to tell from reading various posts on here. The Pre won't kill the iPhone no matter how hard it tries, no matter how well it does. The iPhans will always think the iPhone is capable of anything just because of the success of the app store and the apps in it, along with the number of fellow iPhone owners they have. It's also kinda easy though for Apple/AT&T when you require the special data plan, many people won't think twice about all the extra fees when it's necessary to use the phone.
Who cares if it's an iPhone-killer? I'm just looking for a good, quality alternative. There's more than enough room in this market for a few successful smartphones.
@Tonicboy (round 2)
Me, buddy. I am strictly interested in phones that kill other phones.
Right, buy a used and abused iPhone for $300 when you can buy a superior phone, new, for probably around $200. That makes alot of sense Bozoface.
Dude where the fock did my comment go? Wave function collapse, ahh!!!
Sorry dude, had pangs of guilt and had to kill the joke. :)
Ah okay. 'twas a good joke, too.
I dunno...those palm people are sneaky...
I love all these future product sightings on caltrain.
Wasnt IPhone sighted on caltrain before its introduction too?
There is a secret society of early-adopters that promises gadgets that hasn't been released yet. With one condition that one must ride the Caltrain with the risk of dying in a train accident.
Any souls lost/released on the accident must report immediately to satan.
Looks like the swines flu the coop.
It's pretty much confirmed that the Pre will NOT be compatible with SERO. Which means, as a frugal Asian (see: Cheap, poor college kid), I probably won't be getting this phone :(
The first couple posts on Pre sightings (from all sites, not just Engadget) were interesting. But we get it. It's coming. People have it.
The world keeps turning.
Luckily for the Pre, it wasn't riding on a BART train. If it was, it would have found itself held to the ground while a cop shot it.
FIRST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow. That's just an embarassing 11 minute failure right there.
Better than a 1 minute failure.
No, it's not.
...or 35 second failure in front of his GF!
Screw the over hyped phone lets see those legs
yep, let's see the rest of the user ...
I agree, I hope the "pre" was just a lead in to getting the "pre's" number.
Considering that a) Palm (or whatever the heck it'll be called tomorrow) is a disaster of a company that has changed names more times than I can remember and is currently hemorrhaging money, b) we're in a global recession, and c) most iPhone/BlackBerry users surveyed would not be switching to the Pre, I think they are going to have a seriously tough time making any sort of dent in the market.
As a BB user, I will be switching over, unless it comes out in June. June is too long to wait for this phone.
*sigh*
I'm tired of seeing all the stories about the Pre. At this point I'm more interested in what's holding it. What about more pictures after the break?
wtf is this, digg??
Anyone else noticed the PRE is all of these Sprint advertisements on Engadget and the many other tech sites? It has to be coming out with in the next couple weeks. I bet Engadget even knows the date
"May be real"? May be really lame more like. amirite?
No
You're just jealous because you can't afford an iPhone. What are you gonna do with the tiny little screen on the Pre?
No I'm not jealous because I can't afford an iPhone. I don't want one, and I'm not lookin to get a Pre either. I have an iPod Touch and I love it, I already have a phone and don't need the two combined, so I don't really give a shit. And looking at your ranking I would say most of the commenters agree with my answer to your question
It works out great for me, considering I've got a $150 upgrade credit waiting to be used and another $75 signing bonus if I sign up for another two years. I'm hoping the Pre will be set at $199, that way it'll be free for me, and then some.
Steven, your $150 credit is off of the retail cost... And I'm willing to bet the $75 is for a one year agreement. You won't get the Pre for free...
Man, how do you get a job like that? I would love to be able to test gadgets out in the field.
i've seen the thing in the wild....sprint higher ups have been giving it to a few good sales people that they thing deserver it.yet in doing so they have yet to give the people that need to know any info on the device. so i know it's in the wild and it has been for a good few weeks now. i just want one so that i can find a way to brick it before the world gets to see it. that way i can fix it when they come in.....and did i hear there is no true hard reset on it....that can't be good.
Reset as in reset to factory settings or reset as in reboot? Because I'm pretty sure popping the battery out and in will reboot it.
You can pop the battery out!!! (Say's and iPhone owner) I thought that was a last gen thing, like rumble on the PS3 controllers.
It's nice for those who want supreme out of the box functionality.
I'm going to hold off on the excitement after the let down that was Android. Everyone said the same thing about the G1 and that came and went pretty quietly. Now everyone says "let's wait for version 2!".
I'll get excited about the Pre once it hasn't bombed. Until then, meh.
Actually the argument with Android was the entire opposite. Everyone feared it would be a geek's phone with almost zero out of the box functionality, waiting to be modded and customized. And yes they were right.
The Pre on the other hand almost has everything good to go out of the box... not saying that's what I want. I want an empty desktop waiting for my widgets and shortcuts.
lame
This reminds me of the shots of the iphone...oddly on the same train weeks before it was released/announced back in 2007. palm is doing a damn good job of seeding it.
Ummmm, why didn't the photographer TALK to her?
"Excuse me, is that the new Pre?"
Either she freaks and puts it away, or they strike up a conversation (and he gets laid)?
I think deep inside every man, whether we realize it or not, we hope that somehow any action we take in life, will somehow end up getting us laid.
I mean that's why we were all pizza boys when we were teenagers right? I mean every night, any delivery would be to a house full of women and would end with getting laid.
Have you considered that perhaps the photographer was a girl?
O wait, still works.
uhhhhhhhhhh, the ahvians...

Rhinosaucerous!
why didnt the person ask how she got it :(
I don't know about you guys but I would like to see more of the lady rather than the pre.
Taking photos of girls you don't know on the train could be construed as being rather stalker-creepy.
Any upskirt shots?
"why didnt the person ask how she got it :("
Probably a good way to segue into joining the mile high club.
Not unless that train is going to denver it won't be a mile up.
That's me on the train in disguise, you've all been checking out a guy. [scar]
Has anyone asked one of the people with a Pre in the wild where they got it?
those are some fine legs
she has nice jacket and a skirt too, definitely head turner
Doesn't anyone else think that maybe this is all part of their marketing campaign? Two guys randomly have the phone at a carnival, someone has it on a train. I think it is Palm and or Sprint maintaining interest and pushing the idea that it is ready and available.
Ok, so all these sneaky "in the wild" shots of the Palm Pre ...
Please tell me at least one person who has snapped a picture hasn't been so socially inept that they couldn't just /ask/ the person if they could take a look at it?
I mean, really. I'm sort of picturing the stereotypical nerd: sweating (since it's a girl), drooling (over the phone) and making weird giggling sounds all at the same time ... yet never getting the balls (and serious, it takes balls about the size of a squirrel's balls) to just say, "Excuse me, is that a Palm Pre?" Did you ever think maybe they'd allow you to take some additional shots?
Either that or these gadget blogs are all in on it with Palm/Sprint and these "wild" shots are just some marketing ploy.
i agree with it being some viral marketing. if 16 year old kids are testing these out around, wouldn't friends would have noticed and leaked onto the internet by now?
Why can't someone just approach to the person and ask them about it? >_>
I know a couple of people working for Motorola and they have access to a Palm Pre, not to mention (because I talk alot about linux and platforms) I have a tiny bit of info on a direction they might be heading in...but they refuse to tell me anything once them mention any platforms or libraries.
All I'll say is it sounds like they are working on an OpenGL interface for something, which isn't anything that has leaked from Moto yet.
