Oooo, I got one, they're both 15" screens, so it does make sense, there, ha!
One has Vista and one has Leopard? That's a moot point to some, like me, who use both in the course of a day between home and work, respectively.

Now, one is $699 while the other is $1999. Granted, the HP has a much lower quality video set at the base level, but at this pricepoint, it's a worthy sacrifice, even if you still choose to switch to the Mobile 4330 for +$70.

There's a $1300 price difference here. Mainly, there are things in an Apple notebook that some folks just don't need, or care about. Similar to if you're happy with your Toyota Camry, and wouldn't care about the upgraded components in a C class Mercedes. They are.

- Faster CPU base MBP vs base HP
- Unibody construction
- Unibody Battery for higher life
- Backlit keyboard
- Higher resolution display
- Hybrid SLI in the MBP vs integrated in the base HP
- Glass screen cover in the MBP vs plastic in the glossy HP

.. and there's more that I'm too lazy to really get into.

Sure, $599 gets you a 15" notebook, albeit a basic one. MBP is a premium notebook, the HP is not. If you want a premium Windows notebook, look around; they're not too hard to find, and are priced in a similar fashion to the MBP. So guys, PLEASE let's not start a this vs that firefight :)

Ah, but some people DO need them, my friend. Otherwise, Apple wouldn't sell anything. I don't need them, and you don't need them; those are facts. Plenty of folks do buy Apple machines, for whatever reasons, makes no difference to this guy.

Personally, when I think premium Windows notebook, this HP doesn't fit into that mold. I think more like Dell's XPS Studio 16, or along those lines.

Look man, as civil as I've tried to be with you, you need to buy yourself a fucking clue.

1 - I don't own an Apple computer. I also don't give a shit who does and does not own an Apple computer.
2 - Premium segments usually ARE a niche segment. How many C-Class Mercedes do you see on the road versus an Accord or Camry? Niche, BECAUSE they are premium. I'm not positive as to why you couldn't wrap that around your brain, sport.
3 - Netbooks are netbooks. They aren't basic notebooks. That's like saying a go-kart is a basic car.
4 - This HP to me, IS a basic notebook. And I've already given you several examples of Windows notebooks that I consider premium. Dell has their Studio XPS line. Sony has the FW and AW Vaio machines. It's not my fault you can't get that into your head either. Look at their differences. The Sony's and Dells offer things like Blu-Ray, SSD's, WUXGA displays. You know, higher end components. This HP offers lower-end, basic components. What the flying fuck does this have to do with fanboyism? Oh yeah, it doesn't, and you're remarks peg you as just another clueless moron who didn't read what was written.
5 - Apple-warped view? Seriously? When I even said that the MBP components I listed above, are mostly things I don't need or care about? Again, failure to read, or maybe just preference to be an asshat, I'll leave that call up to you, junior.

You use the C-Class Mercedes as an example of the high-end driver, while across the pond in Europe the C-Class is mostly used as a taxi-cab.

The point is by the numbers, the Camry and Accord are 2 of the highest selling cars in their class here in the States. You're more likely to see one, theoretically, than most cars; because they are more affordable due to less premium items in the vehicle. The C-Class is probably not the best comparison. S-Class perhaps? Any luxury vehicle even. The point is that the Accord and Camry are very basic, while being perfectly competent, and even very nice. My pops has an 07 Camry, and it's quite nice, for the records. But a Camry doesn't need a supercharged V8 or genuine this or that, which you might find in a Benz. Comic Creator, for example. Office demo, Keynote demo, etc etc.
There are also pieces that aren't 'professional' like Garage Band, iTunes, iWeb, most of iLife, etc. I'm not denying the bloatware on Windows is also very bad, just pointing out that both systems are plagued with it.

So no matter what you buy, getting productive use from a machine usually requires removal of "junk" before being useful. It's just a matter of which junk.

Hmm.. I'm glad you pointed that out about Mac bloatware; I've just never noticed it I guess. Which I guess Windows has it's own MS-created crap too. MSN explorer on XP? Lame. The OEM stuff is usually pretty ridiculous; often some no-name virus "solution", demoware out the ass, etc. I don't understand why this stuff isn't even usually removable. OEM's need to understand that for most people, if they want it there, they'll put it there. Period. My most recent machine is an Acer (as it was a STEAL for the specs), and I was so disappointed on first boot with the amount of acer related crap. An always-on-top launcher toolbar? Yeah? When I already have the same shit on the Start Menu, the desktop AND the goddamn Quick Launch taskbar? Get the fuck out of here. Oh well.. good thing I have a volume license for MS stuff. Commercial Notebooks: These are very different notebooks then you will find at BestBuy – they don’t contain the typical freewhere and are typicaly very clean very solid machines. If you have never used an HP business notebook don’t compare them to the $499 special you will find at Wal-Mart.

HP ProBook – New line for basic business uses, best compared to most of the Dell product you see.

HP EliteBook – Introduced last year, main stream business to high end business use this series includes their workstation class notebooks. It also has a ton of very cool HP features, like their common dock, common batteries, and a set of what HP calls Business features.

HP MiniNote – Business Netbook, designed for education with some business travelers that are interested. Has some of their business features.


Consumer Notebooks: These are the typical notebooks you see at the local computer store, they do have freewhere and several trial applications. These are designed for low cost with good features.

HP Brand – generally is the higher end focused on multimedia (not creating but using). They are generally very competitively prices for the features and also focus on fashion – with their interesting custom designs.

Compaq Brand – Low cost, that’s it these are generally the best price HP notebooks you can buy.

HP Mini – HP’s consumer Netbook – I would place this in the same class as the HP Brand consumer notebooks – good features some innovation, completive price.
