I've always found my MacBook unable to play 1080p on an external display.  Do you have it set up as an additional display, or mirrored, or do you have your MacBook display off? I use it for my Ati Mobility Radeon Express 200 on my notebook.  I can overclock to 400Mhz from 300Mhz.
