Like their camera works better than anyone elses? In its class the iPhone has hands down the worst camera experience.

The iPhone does some things very very well and others very very poorly. The other phone makers should (and are) learning from the things its done well, but lets not act like they are all the sudden Apple is going to get their act together about the things they've screwed up so far.

Saying its hands down the worst camera experience is pretty ignorant. There are a lot of other "smartphones" with 2MP cameras, and the user interface issues on those cameras are quite a bit worse. Quality aside, the iPhone camera is still one of the simplest to operate. One button to camera, one button to shoot. Calling that the worst camera experience is really ignoring how bad it is on so many other phones.

The only people that have to get their act together is everybody following in Apple's footsteps regarding interface and design. #1 - I said worst camera "in its class" which it is. The iPhone is priced on the very high end. And it also lacks a shutter key, unless you get apps to make the volume rocker into the shutter key which is a poor solution at best and sad that you have to go there.

#2 - The iPhone doesn't have a good camera because its too thick? No, the iPhone doesn't have a good camera so Apple can keep production costs down. They aren't selling the phone based on having a good camera, so don't pretend like it does.

And if its too thick to have a good camera well then I guess Apple is just kinda crappy in that department.

iPhone - 12.3mm thick - 2 MP (no video, no bells and whistles, not even a shutter key)
LG Arena - 12.0 mm thick - 5 MP (Schneider-Kreuznach optics, autofocus, LED flash)
Omnia - 12.5mm thick - 5 MP (autofocus, LED flash, Geo-tagging, face and smile detection, image stabilization)

How is a mention of available apps for the iPhone irrelevant in an iPhone usability discussion? The number of baseball cards you have is irrelevant anywhere on engadget unless we're talking about a baseball card scanner, or some other trading card related technology.

It's irrelevant because a simple count of Apps speaks nothing to quality or need. Would you rather have 28,000 crappy apps available or 100 great apps?

The fact is that you reach a certain point where the number of apps is completely irrelevant. What is more important is identifying what you want on your phone and seeing if an application is available to meet your needs.
