ASUS releases new Eee PC 1008HA Seashell down by Swansea
ASUS is finally ready to start selling the latest installment in the Eee PC family, the 1008HA Seashell that we've seen popping up here and there at various prices. The official, tax-inclusive UK price of £379 is now confirmed, which is perhaps a little steep for this svelte but otherwise identical revision to the franchise, still offering that good 'ol 1.6GHz processor, 160GB hard disk, 10-inch screen, and GMA graphics. Look for these to start shipping in about two weeks to stylish Brits, while we elsewhere in the world will just have to keep waiting.

Swansea? wtf
I was thinking the same thing. Kind of insulted. At least he didn't mention Swindon.
Has anyone from engadget ever been to Swansea? I'd give this thing 10 minutes before its propped up on concrete blocks...
*yawn*
go back to your xps.
Think you misunderstood... Especially since I didn't say anything. I have an ATOM tablet/netbook with an 8.9in screen. I spent on about $20-$30 more in USD. Hard for me to get excited about the same 'ole thing. Don't know why the convertable netbook/tablets haven't penetrated the mainstream market yet. Good stuff.
Throw in Nvidia 9400 graphics with HDMI out at the same price, then I'm buying...
I used to live in Swansea... what a dump
There are so many EEEs every week
that Engadget will soon become
EEEgadget.
*slow claps*
pathetic
I don't know how they track them all. They must have a bulletin board with pictures and notecards like a police investigation.
Isn't this the point where someone says, "Darn it! The UK gets all the good stuff!!!!".
Oh wait.
We get all the good stuff, but pay twice as much as the septics for it!
I guess SimonMac didn't get your pun or he actually does consider this thing to be part of the "good stuff" !!!
That's ok - I have no idea what he means anyway. (read - too lazy to look up 'septic').
Besides, it's really the Canadians who start that crap.
These netbook companies need to stop wasting our time.
Oh right, cause they made you read the article, decide that it was worthless, and post a comment on something you're not interested in. It's all their fault!
No, no problems with Engadget for reporting on it. I WANT to buy one, but until they do something worth me buying (ION or even GN40) it's just a waste of time. How long have we had the same specs on the same machines?
Amen brother. Look on Newegg, only 4 systems use the n280. Its like releasing a system with a pentium 4 today and expecting us to start going into convulsions due to excitement that can't be expressed in words. netbook = yawn.
C Mon Apple, Kill them all with a Net-Macbook!
A new netbook with the exact same specs as all other currently available netbooks is not news. Seriously, the fact that Engadget and others treat it as news allows these netbook manufacturers to release model after identical model and have the news sheep hype their same old rehashed wares in new cases.
How about an agreement to stop including stories on these new releases until one of the manufacturers does one of the following things:
- Includes Ion...or some other GPU that in not anemic
- Includes a different processor
- Releases a netbook that is somehow otherwise better - e.g., lighter weight, bigger screen, cheaper, ...
Hear that Engadget?
1.1 KG is not lighter weight? maybe im an old fashion... :-p
I wanted this 1008HA very much until I found out the battery is not user replaceable. It's permanent. Means you can't have a spare battery on-hand for long excursions. This could be a deal breaker for me and many others.
Indeed.
The non replaceable 3 cell battery is a deal killer.
Any word on these damn touch screen models?
yes this seashell half-step isn't blowing my skirt up. i need those convertible tablets with the chiclet before i can start chucking netbook-inspired jizz again
I have to agree that the oversaturation of the netbook market is making for boring news. Why not do a weekly netbook roundup until something major happens; say, the release of a new Intel Chipset, or AMD truly entering the forray. I can sum up almost every netbook released in the past year with one spec sheet.
That looks like the macbook air...
