But I want SPOKEN street names and turn by turn auto directions and I want to see those detailed road maps built in. I don't just want "beeps and blips" to indicate when I need to turn. I want to hear the street names and directions spoken.

In fact, I'd like to see all their maps (City, TOPO, and Bluechart) all integrated out of the box. The last thing I want to do is slap down $600 and then spend $300 more on maps and whatever else. I desire a do-it-all GPS device that doesn't require hundreds of dollars worth of options on top of everything else.

And I do NOT want to have to swap memory cards - nobody wants to have to do that... I don't know why manufacturers can't figure that out. Just give me one card with everything on it. If that's the way it is, then so be it. But if not, then they need to simplify things with one card.

Garmin is getting closer, but they're not quite there, yet. If they can just integrate a speaker, auto maps (and applicable interface) that are as good as what's found on their finest auto GPS devices, and spoken street names and directions, then and ONLY then, would I be sold.

Cassini

Comments on Garmin launches Oregon 550 and Oregon 550t outdoor navigators

How about one for the other 49 states?

Mc G

Comments on Garmin launches Oregon 550 and Oregon 550t outdoor navigators

give it wireless capability and it may be worth it. give it cell capability and subsidize it and everyone will want one. as it is, w/ apple apps coming out for everything apple seems to have a grip on the all-in-one category, despite weak GPS and camera features. give me a sony camera w/ a garmin gps and an apple OS and i'll be a happy camper.

ppapump
