I am not sure H/K is in the position to put out a "high-end" Blu-ray player. I was using the term loosely in the world of average people home theater.  That and like I mentioned, H/K has been on a slide and I guess by not following home theater components closely for a few years, things defiantly have changed.  H/K use to have a lot of higher end receivers, with their flag ship being one of the best. I don't know where you get that the HK is falling behind. I have always been a fan of H/K receivers, never owned one since I like a marantz better at the time, but it would appear they are not what they used to be.  I was in the market for a cheap receiver to be used as a pre/pro and as a stop gap until I could get a dedicated pre/pro (eagerly awaiting the Emotiva XMC-1), the H/K 254 was at the top of my list until I read the seemingly ends stream of issues with it.<br><br>A lot of receivers lines seem to have taken a quality hit this year, but from what I have been reading, H/K has been on a slide for a while now. I would assume they would bring the same quality to this unit.  Alas, I have a bd-rom/hd dvd hybrid in my HTPC, so I don't really need a standalone player. HK is just brand now belonging to Harman International.<br><br>To me, fan of Hi-Fi, Harman would always be one of the first choices. Even in advent of DVD, they didn't abandoned their stereo heritage and pretty much all their DVD players are also excellent CD players. And their receivers complement that: they are also good at stereo.<br><br>Shortly: the device might be a good choice if one builds now a new stereo hi-fi system. Harman has here a huge advantage: you can buy the whole system from them. Loudspeakers, amps, mono-amps, pre-amps, receivers, CD/DVD/BD drives, cables - they produce all that. You do not even need to think about compatibility: it would all work together beautifully.<br><br>> BTW that player looks very similar to the Denon/Marantz re badged Funai.<br><br>Funai is plain manufacturer. There's nothing new in fact that many CE manufacturers share production facilities. I once seen (at repair center) a map of VHS player brands to VHS player manufacturers: the competitive boundaries were crossed constantly over years. I think the fix has been released...at least for the full versions...not sure about "Reader" yet.
