Reading the title, the first thought in my mind was "F*** ME!" ..... then I saw Samurai Showdown.... STREET FIGHTER... MARVEL vs CAPCOM.... and my guess is MK2 works as well.... oh GOD!!!!

Now, this is EXACTLY why iPhone blows, and why the Magic is inferior to the G1.... keyboard comes a LONG WAY. Never buy a touchscreen-only Android... you'll be missing a lot.

That said, I don't have a G1. I still have my 4-year old Nokia E65, which emulates GBA, SNES, SEGA Genesis flawlessly, but not Mame. I didn't get the G1 on launch because its hardware disappointed and the software was immature. @TareX: I haven't had any luck finding decent freeware emulators for S60v3, so if you can point me in the direction of a few I would appreciate it. It's brilliant. I recommend playing the Metal Slug series, Donkey Kong series, and Yoshi's Island.

Well "Retro" gaming, in my opinion has a tremendous amount of depth compared to the vast majority of iPhone games made by independent devs. Don't get me wrong, the graphics and physics are great. But almost all of them seem to revolve around "an idea" that gets repeated over and over.... it's nice for a 5-min time out. But they don't rival the joy of going through an extensive well drawn and played platformer like Yoshi's Island or Donkey Kong. So this is EXACTLY why the iphone blows? Did the G1 also blow before this emulator was announced? Strange logic.

Retro gaming is alright for showing everyone on the internet that you're soooo cool, and then you can say how it's the gameplay that's important, and not some shiny new graphics. Make you feel a bit worthy etc

To the best of my knowledge, this is the first smartphone EVER to emulate MAME with such performance.

And no I'm not cheap. I already have a handheld gaming console (DS lite) and am not getting a PSP because the device was as underwhelming as its games. I'm also waiting for a next-gen PSP, if this ever comes out.

The idea is CONVERGENCE. Having as many things feasible on a single device. Mame emulation, is a HUGE-step gaming wise. And no, I am not bashing iPhone games and glorifying retro gaming to "look cool". I actually think that those titles offer BETTER gameplay than iPhone games. I also have a real gaming machine (PC) for "modern" game titles. On my phone, every now and then, I wip it out and play a title or two of retro gaming, and it's much more satisfying than most iPhone games. Everyone knows a hacked PSP is the best portable hands down you can play every console and portable system up to the PS1 plus you have all the media support like movies, RSS feeds, etc....

Just research it it'll probably save you some money in the end because you can get a PSP-1000 for about $99. I have on my ipaq 214 pda and can play metal slug with sound full speed, samurai showdown, marvel vs capcom, street fighter III 3rd third strike (needs a lot of free ram) flawlessly.
that said I was glad to have brought the pda (only cos it was at a bargain) so I know what you mean with it being not a reason to get the G1, but its nice to know you can do that

android arcade has been doing cps-1, cps-2, cave shooters, and neo geo for over a month.
