And this is fine. No one can know everything, or have a pertinent opinion on every subject. But then it's better not to say anything, rather than wanting to act as if you knew.

My point is not to say that linux is the best OS in the world, and to explain why. I just want to tell the only guy that's going to read this comment that everything that I heard was wrong. It sounded like nothing works, and is so awfully complicated that even a professional cannot setup the screen resolution... Then my 55 years old mum who's using ubuntu for 2 years in a linux guru, but I just didn't know it !

but don't believe me, and try for yourself ! Boot a live cd, spend 3 hours navigating in the system, and then you'll have your own first impression. Same thing for our 3 experts....even if it would have been a good idea to do this before the show.

g-rozan

Comments on Engadget Podcast 147 - 05.22.2009

Great podcast as usual.

I was almost sure that some linux addict would make a comment on how linux is soooo easy to use and can really be used by any grandma, but I'm afraid to admit I have had the same experience with ALL linux distros that I have tried : either problems with drivers, or lack of software, or spend too much time reading "man " to figure out why something doesn't work... So I would rather say that I agree with our three speakers.

Although I'm sure that something like moblin 2.0 will be great for netbook users if important software companies would colaborate to build specific apps.

raphael.cohen
