We don't know exactly what they're feeding the engineers up in Waterloo, but we're guessing it's a combination of Red Bull, NoDoz, and speed, because they appear to be working on about ten devices at once -- awesome news for anyone looking to pick up a new BlackBerry in the next 6 to 12 months. We've already seen the
Onyx in the wild, but as a refresher, this puppy does UMTS (and we'd assume HSDPA as well), a 3.2 megapixel AF cam, an undoubtedly gorgeous 480 x 360 display, GPS, and WiFi in a body more svelte than the
Bold's; now,
CrackBerry's managed to score a unit and give it a quick once-over. All told the impression seems very positive, with the takeaway being that RIM has taken the best personality traits of the
8900 and 9000 series and stuffed it all into a single device. We're not necessarily expecting this one on the market any time soon -- AT&T
just launched the 8900 a couple days ago, after all, and
CrackBerry believes RIM could replace the trackball with a
Gemini-style optical pad prior to launch -- but it's something to look forward to.
Nice looking BlackBerry
they all look the same
@gareth: that's just what i was going to say
also i don't know what's so special about this phone, it just has all the same functions that most smartphones have lately
If it isn't broken don't fix it.
Augh. Meant for Gareth.
damned comment system, right?
comment system = broken. Fix it.
The T-Mobile Version of the Onyx (The Driftwood) will be coming out sooner than the Onyx which is Great since TMob needs a 3G Blackberry More.
So if it has the same cam as the bold what is the difference? the cam isn't higher res why would someone want this over a bold? seems like the same product re packaged
The camera is higher res than the Bold. (2.0 vs. 3.2 MP)
The screen is higher res than the Bold. (480x320 vs. 480x360)
It has twice the application memory. (128MB vs. 256MB)
Rumored to have a faster CPU.
Tighter form factor.
It's shaping up to be a very solid device.
And doesn't look bad doing it
Looks too similar and the specs are too close to my Bold for me to really care.
It looks pretty slim
Looks pretty sweet. I like my Bold, but it's just too big. I'll probably have the new iPhone by the time the Onyx drops though...
So this is what the new Curve should've been.
Can't believe it took them this long to reveal a device with all the important features, instead of leaving one out each time they released something (WiFi, GPS, 3G, whatever it may be.) Once they get the battery life up to par, this should be a really great replacement for the aging Curve 8300 line (which is a surprisingly strong seller at my job.)
I am totally getting this phone. I WAS gonna get the Curve 8900 to replace my sidekick, but this seems like it'll be so much better. I just want to see the development of more apps in app world.
