1) AMD has just been crushed in the dual-socket server market by Nehalem-EP. In fact, a dual-processor Nehalem-EP (quadcore) setup rivals a QUAD-socket Opteron platform. (quad-core).

2) it is great that the 6-core Istanbul is out early and available in 4 and 8-socket versions right away. This should allow AMD to dominate most larger server installations for now as the 6-core Intel Dunnington (Core 2 based) can't keep up because of being memory starved by the front side bus. That said, this will only last through 2009 at the latest, as the coming eight-core, quad-memory channel, 32MB L3, Nehalem-EX is supposed to ship in early Q1 2010, and based on Nehalem-EP's performance, should absolutely *dominate* the high-end server market. I want to convert my 720p TV library / 1080p movie library to the proper resolution for the new Zune and another resolution for streaming over my 1mbps upload (damn you, TWC!).
