BUT...

If they recorded the mix on layers, then each unique effect / song / scratch, etc would be a separate sound available to be launched by the controller. So if you scratch, you are scratching what was specifically noted to be at that timecode location, but you wouldn't be able to switch up the sound you are playing.

It would be super cool if this is the case, because there would be some wack sounds coming out of that thing if you didn't know how to DJ to begin with ;-) Straight up train wreck!

Actually, turntables are just as much an instrument as a guitar, piano, or saxophone. It's a tool for making sounds. Just because it doesn't play a musical note does not mean it's not a musical instrument.

And, on second thought, if a part of a record is playing a note or chord, and you pitch it up or down, you can create melodies across two or more tables. I've seen it done live as a matter of fact.

A turntable is a deviced used for the playback of recorded sound. I would never go so far as to call it an instrument, that is not to say that it is not a tool for remixing music and anyway a turntable on its own isnt going to do much for you without a mixer.
