The Pre is obviously a very capable device (at LEAST as much as the very first iteration of the iPhone) and I don't know if it's a lack of marketing genius, the slow economy, or the fact they're VERY late to the game, but there simply isn't ANY mass appeal for this cool little device. This close to iPhone 1's launch there was already lines of people camping in front of every Apple store throughout the entire country and it was covered on a daily basis by every major news outlet. Even iPhone 2 (an evolutionary device at best) had more excitement surrounding it than the Pre does now.

I guess no matter how much attention a handful of tech blogs give a device, it's just not quite enough to create the undefinable "buzz" that puts people in a spending frenzy. IF, and that's a big if, Apple releases another breathtaking device, Palm can kiss any chance of a quick revival goodbye. So in that sense it's not really going to be competition...like at all.

So all the anti apple haters can continue to delude themselves with that fantasy.
