We've seen some of the lag and sync problems when going through external hubs (other than the one built into the RB2 drum dongle).

Support for both the blue and the red singstar mikes (instead of blue only as in RB1, RB2) keeps my good ports free for the RB instruments (plus logitech wheel, buzz controllers, etc.)

I could be wrong though. I thought Guitar Hero and Rock Band would've been huge failures due to the fact that you had to spend a bunch of extra money on custom controllers that are only good for one game.
