Wind River does indeed play around in the android market to a small degree but they are significantly better known for producing their own embedded linux distro which is what I suspect Intel is after. Android may be all nice and shiny as a Shell, but in the embedded space a generic embedded Linux distro has considerably more market opportunities. As an example, just look at the relative number of devices that run WMo specifically, or WinCE. WinCE has a significantly larger customer base because it isn't just limited to handset, PDAs, and MIDs. The same is true for Android and Wind River Linux.

josh

Comments on Intel snaps up Wind River, looks for that embedded systems edge

i'd hit it in a jiffy, if they use one of those new fangled flexible oled screens for this....

mocax

Comments on Intel snaps up Wind River, looks for that embedded systems edge

Yeah if that could be put into production I think intel could make a ton of greenbacks.....

Hackettman

Comments on Intel snaps up Wind River, looks for that embedded systems edge

I'm gonna go out on a limb and hope for the Nokia Nano to make the leap from concept to product.. http://www.mobile-ent.biz/news/29948/Nokias-nano-phone-concept

Canny

Comments on Intel snaps up Wind River, looks for that embedded systems edge

What a great move by Intel!
