Kinpo shows off 7-inch Android thin client tablet
First was the G1, and next came a slew of other cellphones. Now, we've got Android sashaying on over to netbooks, and just in case you're not really looking for that, there's Kinpo's 7-inch tablet. As the Google-sourced OS continues to show its versatility, the aforementioned company has thrown it onto a so-called thin client with a Freescale i.MX51 processor and WVGA display. From the video posted after the break, we'd say the system makes a good fit on this form factor, but feel free to hop on down and judge for yourself.

Android on a 7in tablet... that's what will replace my ipod Touch.
Someone has big pockets 0_o
Better they are deep than big.
Android "sashaying" onto netbooks?
How about "invading"?
Someone has to offer customers performance on the netbooks. Microsoft doesn't want to.
Ubuntu?
No no google..... Ubuntu doesnt have a gigantic corporation backing it up..... Its community based and destined to be the wants of fanboys all over the world once google takes market share and smacks apple and microsoft aside.....
Seems to have some accelerometer issues
I believe he had to click the button to flip it.
Isn't there an Archos event this week where they'll show off an Android tablet?
There are just a few things I want in life: one is Android on a smart-looking smartbook and another is Ubuntu on a Vaio P-sized netbook with a Thinkpadesque trackpoint.
Anyone know which ARM processor architecture this Freescale chipset is based on?
If they are using the i.MX37 it's I think just an ARM11, if they are using the i.MX51 then I think it is an ARM Cortex A8 type of processor. See http://techvideoblog.com/computex/allgo-embedded-systems-develops-android-for-pmps-using-freescale-imx37-processor/ for more info about how Freescale is supporting the making of many new Android powered PMP devices..
As nifty as this looks, I'm not quite sure what I'd do with it. 7 inches is a great screen, but way too big for a pockets, and since 7 inch Eee's are less than $200, I can't see this toppling those. Anyone's thoughts?
not very interesting for now, wait n watch is the name of the game!
Very smart move on Google's part... gives them a market share app over the iThings.
If they manage to sell enough phones and laptops developers will eventually flock to the Android platform.
"thrown it onto a so-called thin client"
It looks rather thick to me. For the lightweight specs this thing is
sporting, it should be thinner.
Looks like a pretty good PMP/GPS/Internet Tablet.
The question is, if there is actually a market for these things.
What a shame. Why can't anyone seem to solve the background issue when porting Android to high res screens?
Also it's too slow (and appears to be playing video in portrait only?) How rushed was this product for Computex?
is that a porting issue? or just the default background image ratio not fitting that resolution?
just the default background image ratio not fitting that resolution
So, is this an actual thin client, something I could use as a media server front end, or network controller. Or is this just another android MID?
I kind of got a MID-feeling from this, though I found it interesting it didn't get the bashing all the other MIDs did when posted on Engadget...
Give it a slide out thumb keyboard and I'll buy it.
Android is impressive for a Google OS. They have hit the ground running. I just downloaded Picasa3 for my MacBook Pro and it does everything and more than iPhoto 09'. The best part is that it doesn't change the file composition, which I have never understood aside from proprietary purposes. Although I love my Mac *squints for the blows to the head* Apple will soon learn the future of the internet and how I believe Google will sustain themselves well into their second decade...unlike Ebay.
The world's largest cell phone. Doesn't even fit in a pocket.
Looks like more work needs to be done. Also what's "Contacts" and "messaging" doing on there? Is it suppose to be a cell phone? You'll probably have to hire someone to carry that for you...
How bout it Murph?
What makes this thing a thin client, and how come you guys don't hate it?
neat. i need a tablet for toilet reading and bedtime surfing
was thinking about crunchpad, but android certainly seems cooler. will definately keep an eye on the development
another netbook with android~~~~
"First was the G1, and next came a slew of other cellphones"
Did I miss something? What other phones on the market run Android?
thanks.
ok.... but how about an android tablet with digitised touch and handwriting support ?
This comment is a test. Don't hate me please.
