Carriers make some modifications also. The end user can make device specific tweaks to THEIR preference. It truly becomes their phone. A true techie would utilize WinMO, Android, and/or Symbian. The WebOS system when fully matured may go just as far. And I hope it does.

All the fancy iPhone animation and look can be replicated if the user likes that on a WinMo. Granted, it's not a replacement for a real filesystem that can be accessed by all applications, but if all you want to do is store (and view) files on the iPhone which can be readily uploaded/download via computer, then it works great.

I personally have an iPod Touch and I use an application called "MobileFinder". Now it would be nice if they had some sort of home folder where applications could open and save files in order to get rid of redundant copies of files say, if two different apps you have read PDF files. If you could access this like a hard disk as Apple has done with all the other iPods it would be great.

As for imitating the iPhone, it is not at all possible with Windows Mobile. I'm sorry, I and many others have tried, and all you end up with is an inconsistent interface. The hardware put into the iPhone is always based on what can be done in the US (no bitching about it being available in Europe please). And, please, think of the battery life for that feature. 5 hrs for 3G talk time alone would drop to maybe 2-3 hours of video chat time. People would be complaining about horrible battery life! It's a pipe dream

3) Forward facing camera - due to the iPhone's slim profile, I doubt there's any space for that. You've already got the accelerometer, 2 proximity sensors and a speaker at the top.
