2. The rom wasn't actually leaked. You can get the restore tool here: www.palm.com/rom
Unzip the jar and you have the OS, plus sprint add ons, plus CMDA AND UTMS firmwares. So yes it is going GSM eventually. The code is already done.
3. We rooted the Pre around 8ish Pacific time. I may be wrong, but it seems to me that the $299 post rebate price is the retail non-contract price. So if you are getting the phone with a service contract you will most likely see a ~$200 price drop on the phone.

...Unles you are some of the unhappy US customers whose dialer/SMS app came bogus and is constantly crashing.

I DO have a palm centro, and it is not US version, and it have never crashed. Dialing OK, answering calls OK, (3rd p) recording calls OK, SMS OK, etc. OK. My dialer app looks different of those on Sprint&ATT.

Don't know exactly what other phones have this same problem, but not me, that's for sure.

By the way, it explains why customers say "I have a AT&T phone" or "I have an Sprint phone", but on customer service. Does not explain why it is there on AMAZON, for example. Is a Sprint centro different phisically from an unlocked phone? Why "case for Sprint centro", for example? So that's definitely not for another one.
