Dell and Samsung placing orders for 11.6-inch netbook screens?
We've known for a while that Dell's planning to follow the Mini 10 and Mini 12 with a Mini 11 at some point, and it sounds like that day isn't far off -- word out of the always-poppin' Display Taiwan 2009 tradeshow is that the company's placed a large order for 11.6-inch displays from noted party supplier Chunghwa Picture Tubes. We're also hearing that Samsung's getting in the action, so we'd assume there's a new CULV thin-and-light coming our from Korea sometime as well, but we'll see when we see.

saw a deal about costco having an acer 11.6 atom Zxx CPU 768p laptop $349.99 today
There's no such thing as an "acer 11.6 atom Zxx CPU 768p laptop" ! That would be quite the deal alright. Latest deal from Costco: Nonexistence computers!
Too many netbooks. Is there enough interest out there to buoy all of these models by all of these manufacturers? I guess it'll take a while to figure out who the Quantex Microsystems and the Wangs are of the netbook world.
Then again, Quantex made a quality product they just couldn't hang.
In my mind, anything over 10" is no longer a netbook, but a notebook (or even a laptop). A network is small and inexpensive. Period. It doesn't have run a particular processor or operating system. Ultimate portability is what designated a netbook to my mind. Talk of a 12" netbook is ludicrous.
Um, people want larger because the keyboard on netbooks are just too damn small. How many wpm can you get on that thing? 40?
Netbook aren't designed for WPM. I think that there is a place for low cost 12 inch notebooks, they are not really the same as netbooks.
Why is it that when people want a netbook, they want a larger screen and keyboard? For me the whole reason to get a netbook instead of a regular laptop is the portability. That is why I chose to get a 9" model instead of a 10".
down with the 12inch netbookers! Long live the 12 inch notebookers! Follow the Gourd!
I wrote my dissertation on my eee 1000H and had no problems with it at all.
Enjoy not being able to hit "OK" in dialog boxes because they don't fit on a 600px tall screen.
Man. I wish somebody would make a netbook with a 17 inch screen. Throw in a dual-core processor and a couple of gigs of RAM. Of course I would need an internal Blu-Ray drive and a kicking graphics card. Even better, how about a GPGPU? I'd pay a couple of grand for a netbook like that!
No man, netbooks are cheap. A netbook like that would only cost you like $1900. Tops.
You are a troll whether you know it or not.
nah that's not trolling, that's just sarcasm.
Sorry, Dell, you can add bells and whistles to your netbooks ("hd" screens and tv tuners) but you still don't match the rock-solid awesomeness of the Asus 1000HE.
how about a netbook with alot of usb ports? that'll be nice. at least 6 would be nice.
Why would you need 6 USB ports unless you are using your netbook in a "desktop" configuration and, if so, why cram USB ports into the machine when you can simply get a USB hub?
Maybe we should define netbooks/laptops by processor and power consumption instead of screen size...
I consider a netbook to just be a more portable (thus generally less powerful, but not necessarily) version of a laptop. So screen size would be a better way to describe them. IMO of course...
A netbook is just an ultraportable laptop with the processor manufacturer's most power efficient/weak processor. That's about it I think.
All these touch screens coming in anticipation of Win 7 :)
So now that we've hit all the whole number screen sizes between 7" and 18", when to we see the half sizes.
"Sometimes a 10" screen just won't get the job done, but you don't want the hassle and weight of an 11" chassis. Introducing the all new 10.5" Eee 1050HD.
It's just right."
I will be buying the Dell 11, more power than the EEE that I have, yet still small enough to be portable and have good battery life over a normal notebook.
Who doesnt want an 11 inch computer that is allowed to actually have 2gigs of memory and a larger hard drive? Its like getting the mini 10 but without the limitations set by microsoft. Im waiting for the argos to come out for sure.
I don't care about screen size, all I really want is ION so I can use the netbook as a portable hw accellerated HD video file player at my friends house. Is this too much to ask?! also a 10" 720p screen would be nice
If Dell's 11.6 inch ntbook has at least 1280 X 800 resolution, I would consider buying it.
11.6" screen means 1366 X 768.
What a cocktease. :( No, im not gay.
