Life-sized Gundam complete and no, you can't borrow it

In the Universal Century, we suppose this sort of thing will be rather blasé. But until then, there's really no better way to get our geek hearts a-flutter than some up close and personal pics of this 1:1 scale model of the classic RX-78-2 Gundam mecha, built to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the franchise. We've been watching the construction of this thing rather closely and we're proud to announce that the finished product is every bit as badass as we'd hoped. If you're not planning on making the trip to Tokyo any time soon, feel free to take a gander at the thing in the gallery below. And our thanks to blogger Punynari for the awesome pics!

GUUNNNNDAAAMMMUUUU
Ga-n-da-mu
Gu-n is pronounced Goo-n
Boy would I love to see them erect a series of these statues, depicting the major Gundams in each series. Might scare the hell out of an invading alien force.
@darkmax
Did you just correct a fictionalized phonetic spelling? Oh my god, you are now officially the biggest dork on these boards. And on these boards, that's saying A LOT.
@Tonicboy: Japanese pronnuciation isn't fictional, mate.
Anyways, if you insist on being cool, its Friday night. Hit a bar. Go to a club.
@tonicboy
actually this is just a "comments section." "boards" are short for "message boards." if you're gonna be a dick, you better damn well be immaculate.
✌
BRING ON THE HEAVY ARMS NEXT!!!
immaculate dick ROFL, that shit made my day
why does he insist on throwing up the peace sign on top of being goofy
I hear the air in Japan has something to do with making people throw the piece sign or "victory" pose. I hear in some areas they even indulge in tentacle creatures attacking women in school uniform.

Haha i know the peace sign was a little much! Lol
For some reason I think one day that thing will turn on and destroy the city.
This is Japan's answer to N. Korea and their nukes.
Time to pilot that thing straight into Pyongyang and show Kim Jong II that sometimes it's better to just stay ronrey.
"Sir, the North Korean military has launched missiles directed at us!"
"Damn those bastards! Alright, it's time to unleash our secret weapon!"
"Amuro Ray, Gundam! Taking off!"
Kind of like in Justice League: Unlimited?
Wow, I actually understood that Japanese R=L thing...
as I said before - 3 years and this thing is battle tested & operational - N. Korea better get the hint - u don't f*ck w/ Gundams
is it a huge doll or is it actually functional?
It's fully functional. It's got that lightsaber thing ready to use.
Yeah, didn't you catch the article about them perfecting Minovsky-type ultracompact fusion reactors last week?
its only a matter of time before there gov try's to make a real one now that they see how impressive this is
alright alright i get it that was a stupid question to ask
thats what he said!
it definitely moves. check out the pictures of the internal cockpit
That would be sick if you could go in it lol
Only if your younger than 15 can you pilot the Gundam. The would be pilot would have to rewrite the Gundam's OS on the fly, posses superhuman reflexes, and be a school kid who hates war.
SEED is crap, UC forever.
UC has its own share of kids though Amuro was 15, Judau was 14, and Uso was 13. Gundam 00 is one of the only series with older characters (18, 23, 25)
You shush. SEED was awesome. 00 lacks the magic SEED had in terms of story and character development. I honestly cared about the characters in SEED whereas I didn't give a damn every time a character died in 00 (and we know how often that happened...).
everyone knows gundam wing was the best one of the franchise
I have no idea what you guys are talking about; seed 10, aumuro 13, judaro 42??
But I'm guessing it's secret code for "I've never been laid."
@turtlesoup
i don't think that rule applies anymore. geeks seem to get laid more often than people like you and i (i.e. dickheads trying to act cool on the intawebz)
@ jay jay
Too true. Gundam Wing rules! You can't beat Treize Kushrenada fabricating Gundam Epyon out of nothing inside of his library.
Though this statue is definitely badass too
@Deadpool
I thank Adam Brody
i definitely want to hit up Tokyo now
so full of win!
I don't know anything about Gundam but looking at the guys up on the ladder next to that thing gives me chills. In a good way.
It's so beautiful... :(
HAHA, RIP TOKYO!
This is an elaborate conspiracy, they said they were "erecting a statue".
The truth is, this is the real deal. It's set to activate in the middle of the night and destroy all life forms, starting with Tokyo.
GFG!
What are you talking about?! North Korea testing short range missile and then this Gundam all of a sudden show up. Tha'ts not coincidence, it's faith! cue music....
The Gundam is not a robot. It requires a pilot.
"The Gundam is not a robot. It requires a pilot."
but only in the way a war-horse requires a rider. Anything that big and that complex would only interpret commands from the pilot, it would have to maintain walking, balance, and other functions on it's own...just like a horse can run around and jump around a field without a rider just fine.
as kool as that is, it would be 100 times kooler if it moved around. but non the less its awesome
Predictions on what are they going to do for the 40yr anniversary?
probably just reassemble this, or have Char's Zaku or move to the Zeta Gundam, maybe for 100th anniversary it'll be a lifesize and fully functional Nu Gundam
...next they need to make a Zaku II
Sieg Zeon!!!
no make wing gundam or even the custom form or maybe even god gundam
someone should GIGAPAN the gundam up close and get all the detail lol
I'm not even a Gundam fan & I think that thing is badass!
