There is no excuse for locking the phone when THE CUSTOMER IS UNDER CONTRACT. We already have to pay the bill every month because of the contract, so we should have the right to take the phone to another carrier and pay them TOO if we want. Just like the airlines, the telcos get it both ways and we get reamed both ways.

Thats the Danish excuse. Naturally the phone companies want to lock the user to their rates and networks.

And in Mexico and Latin America, the iPhone is available in multiple paying options and with multiple carriers (ex: in Mexico you can get it in prepaid and postpaid) while in El Salvador you can get the iPhone on prepaid and postpaid with 2 of the major GSM networks...

Asia is out considering the iPhone is not very popular over there to begin with and in Africa most countries only have one compatible GSM network
