DIY Robot Voice Modulator makes it that much easier for you to cover Styx

Yes, you could just run out and buy a vocoder, but they're kinda pricey and this way is so much more fun! Using an IKEA clock, a fluorescent desk lamp, an HT8950 voice modulator, a condenser microphone and some miscellaneous stuff you're crafty self is bound to have just laying around, you can make one of your own! Doesn't look terribly complicated to us, but then, we love things that are terribly complicated. Get to it, sirs -- hit the read link for full instructions. Dōmo arigatō.

Or you could just process your voice after you record it on your computer.
To each his own.
"...miscellaneous stuff you're crafty self..."
It should be "your", not "you're".
Your welcome. ;)
Oh no, Engadget's grammar is going downhill too?
welcome to the intarwebz where languages are raped and butchered by the average denizens that lurk in the various dark corners of forums and blogs.
"Your welcome. ;)"
It should be "you're", not "your"
Way to grammar fail while correcting someone's grammar you ignorant fool.
@GG Nice head
Thats what he said!
Weeeeee are pleased that you succeeded in the final challenge where we pretended we were going to murder you.
welcome to the grand illusion...
i built a voice modulator once in an "into to engineering" class out of an fpga board. it was all done with software. wasn't the easiest thing in the world. it took a team of 4 3 weeks to do it.
Wow. i did a voice modulator as part of my class... we accomplished it in 1 week... was the "funnest" thing ever!!
We had different frequencies and wave forms to mix our voice with.
YES -CHILLING!
I'm so scared of your leftover prop from a Styx video!
Oh PLEASE spare my life, Mr. Roboto!
looks like one of those simon saids toy where it'll spray pepper spray on your face if you get the wrong combination.
Ha, I remember that toy, although technically you where supposed to put water in it...
fuck.
im pretty sure that thats not a vocoder.
vocoder gets the sound envelope from human voice and applies it to synth sound (in example)
so you have a synth sound with a sound envelope from a human voice.
(and you can get a vocoder in Logic Express for example.)
Anyone that doesn't know about it --> MAKE magazine / Makezine.com/Instructables is awesome! There are a lot of great hacks and DIY projects there, and you don't have to be an electronics expert either..

Gad Get,
Their grammar is correct; you're wrong. You're is the contraction for "you are"; your is a possessive pronoun. In case you don't really believe me (and it's clear that you threw all your English grammar books away, here's a link to the relevant page http://esl.about.com/od/grammarintermediate/a/cm_your.htm .
You should of replied to the grammar guy.
Chad Ellis,
Gad Get was right to correct their grammar as they were wrong (as are you). In case you don't believe me (and it's clear you're an ignorant douche who thinks he knows everything and tries to correct others' "mistakes" but only succeeds in making himself look foolish) I've put the original sentence below:
"Using...some miscellaneous stuff you're crafty self is bound to have just laying around"
so if the sentence is correct, as you say it is, then it would read like this without the contraction:
"Using...some miscellaneous stuff you are crafty self is bound to have just laying around"
Hmm... "you are crafty self" huh? Doesn't really sound so good anymore does it Mr. Linguistics?
Here's a handy little worksheet I found that might help you out a bit.
