back on topic, android as a platform will not suffer from manufacturers and carriers customizing the OS to suit their needs/customer desires. whatever you get you can always flash base android on it if you don't like it. and android has a strong hack/mod community to take your conversion the other way so long as your phone can handle it.

One unanswered question is how HTC will handle Google's Android OS updates. Presumably, they'll take Donut, reskin it, and return it to their users...after how long?

To your question: Google is in the Android game to drive more web traffic -- that's how they make money. . Mobile is the next desktop. 10 years from now, everyone will have a computer in their pocket. "The best way to predict the future, is to create it..."

My deep thought question: Is Google stock still a buy at $400+?

Now Dell can claim their 12" mini is a netbook, but it won't qualify for XP Home (and Win7 Starter AFAIK).
With reduce prices for OS and components, that should help keep these netbooks somewhat inexpensive (most are sub $400).
AMD and Via do have chips that would qualify as "netbook CPUs" for XP Home, but I haven't heard too many of these available.
AMD appears more to be targeting the next step up with 12" displays - the "ultraportables". Of course this has the added cost of having to use Vista Home Basic.
