Pretty much every modern laptop can be hooked up to every modern TV with the right cable, and there's usually a way to hook them up even if they don't both have DVI/HDMI. So what, ultimately, does blocking the PS3 achieve?

I know why Hulu has a "no TVs" policy, and it makes sense given their content owners cannot legally license the content primarily for on-TV viewing, but there's a difference between not actively assisting people with putting Hulu on TV, and trying to prevent it from happening. The latter is an impossibility, and just creates bad feeling. The content owners need to cut Hulu some slack and stop demanding they go to these lengths.

It's not as if the PS3 doesn't have, *cough*, "alternative" ways of getting the same damned content on it, in ways where the content owners, networks, and affiliates, don't see a single penny. Part of the reason for Hulu is to undermine those channels, right? I had it on an old 27' Sony Trinitron from like 1990 going through S-video and it looked great. Then when that broke, I had it on a little 19" sanyo, and going thru just composite (putting cross-color reduction on on ps3) and it still looked fine. Even low quality youtube videos looked decent using PS3's zoom to make the vids full screen. This was before it was updated so the full screen buttons would work. PS3 does an awesome job of scaling the internet down. You obviously don't have a PS3 to think the web looks bad in SD. Or you just don't play around with setting when you hook up electronics. PS3's web browser has quite a few different scaling options to look perfect on ANY TV. Who the hell doesn't play around with high end electronics settings now-a-days? I think people who bash PS3's are the only ones who don't. Because they ALWAYS say false facts about PS3's display.

LarryL

Comments on Hulu to PlayStation 3 browsers: "This video is not available on your platform"

this is JUST the problem! why "scale down" the internet on what is essentially a very powerful computer? Hulu doesn't want to prevent your from watching it on TV, they want to prevent various software to grab their source and use them as a server for videos. Richard writes that "changing a browser's user-string to match the console reveals it is definitely being specifically blocked."

Can someone elaborate as to how this is done and what this means exactly? Is he saying that you can change a setting on your PC's browser that makes it appear to be a PS3, and by doing so, it will get blocked just like the PS3? Theoretically, couldn't you just change the same setting on the PS3 to emulate a PC, therefore restoring hulu playback? I'm guessing that can't be the case. I feel sorry for you PS3 guys that you had hulu access on your tv and now it's gone.

I've never had hulu access on my living room tv and I'm wondering if there is a way that I overlooked. I have an Xbox360, but I'm pretty sure the only way to have hulu is to pay for PlayOn. I used the trial version a long time ago and I just wasn't impressed enough with it to consider buying the program (plus, I'm afraid something free would come along as soon as I did). I also have a Popcorn Hour A100, but I think it's the same story as the 360. I read on their forums that the processor used in it isn't strong enough to handle flash natively (which, admittedly, seems odd since it can handle 1080p video so well), so you need PlayOn to transcode the video. I do have a newer laptop from work which is kind of a beast, but it only has a VGA out for some reason (which looks blurry now that I'm used to DVI). I've been toying with the idea of getting a USB-to-DVI adapter from monoprice so I could digitally connect it to my monitor at home. I don't have a DVI input on my tv, but I do have a DVI-to-HDMI cable to handle the video. There are a few of these USB-to-DVI adapters to choose from...

http://www.monoprice.com/products/subdepartment.asp?c_id=101&cp_id=10114

...but I think I would need the one that has the separate audio inputs.
