Oregon Scientific introduces solar-powered +ECO Clima Control weather station
It may not be the snazziest thing to ever leave the labs at Oregon Scientific, but it's still a new take on the average desktop weather station that Ma Earth would certainly appreciate. The sun-powered +ECO Clima Control weather station is equipped with a built-in solar panel and enables users to monitor the current temperature and humidity in up to four locations within the home and outdoors. The device relies on remote wireless sensors, and considering that it can operate for up to three months with just an eight hour charge, even folks under the clouds in Seattle can take advantage. Those interested in bringing one home can do so for $119.99, and if you're still not convinced of the value proposition here, you can look forward to two more +ECO wares this September. Tap that read link for more information on the both of those.

Oregon Scientific makes neat stuff... even if its a bit overpriced.
Derigo @ Jul 7th 2009 5:04PM
They've never made anything as good as the Osaris PDA (based on EPOC 4, of all things)...
... anyone else remember them?
loocas @ Jul 7th 2009 5:13PM
Funnily enough, my current weather station broke down, so I'm looking for a replacement. :)
This one looks sexy!
*goes searching on e-bay*

Make tell us the forecast and you got yourself a buyer. Can't rely on weather stations who's almost inaccurate most of the time, at least in Montreal.
joe23521 @ Jul 7th 2009 5:27PM
Would it be too much to ask for it to display the time and date?
Will @ Jul 7th 2009 5:27PM
It's interesting that the Blackberry Tour article a couple of posts down doesn't let anyone post there. Just thought I'd throw that out there....

Pair it with a solar-powered wireless rain gauge and I'd buy the setup in a heartbeat.
John @ Jul 7th 2009 6:04PM
Neat.

Actually - solar power works pretty well in Seattle . . .

You guys already posted on this back in january: http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/15/oregon-scientifics-rmr500-weather-display-includes-integrated-s/

Good catch, and a bit embarrassing for engadget, and interestingly enough the same article author too.
Maybe it'll become a tradition and he'll post it every 6 months :)

I'm kinda bummed I read the title wrong. A "solar-powered +ECO Clima Weather control station" would have been awesome.
frankpalumbo @ Jul 7th 2009 6:46PM
I like solar power but man, $120.00? Yikes! I don't own a weather station and maybe that is why.... too cheap.
frankpalumbo @ Jul 7th 2009 6:42PM
What are the advantages of owning a weather station???
chrism238 @ Jul 7th 2009 8:31PM
You see, this one has the word *Control* in its name.
I think that they could make a James Bond movie about that!
Wwhat @ Jul 8th 2009 9:18AM
I think it's an obsession thing with some people, but for the rest it might be handy to be able to monitor temperature in 4 places, see if the greenhouse is getting too cold or if the garage or computerroom is overheating or if it's pleasant in the garden in the morning, which could be dependant on stuff the weather report can't tell you.
And some places are just too far away from any monitoring station, or you simply don't want to check internet or the annoying weather reports on TV/radio and quickly see the temperatures in your actual surroundings
It's a bit weird that it also has an internal temp sensor though it seems, since you'd need to put it in the sun to keep it charged and then it'll always overstate the temperature as it's cooking in the sun.
hagiv @ Jul 7th 2009 9:18PM
buyer beware! Oregon Scientific quality is terrible and their customer support is non-existent!
Scott Sanders @ Jul 7th 2009 9:34PM
It does display time and date. There's a button on the back to toggle the bottom row from "external sensors" to "time/date." Not only that, but it sets the clock automatically by the radio broadcast from NIST.

because global warming is SO real. http://www.discussglobalwarming.com http://www.junkscience.com We have out of control food prices, gas prices, drunk driving galore and yet we cant even predict tomorrow's weather --- yet we are about to be raped by congress again. BOHICA.
