Some models you'll see carrier spesific branding, like T-Mobile badge HTCs as MDAs etc. There's no reason a handset can't be sold unlocked and also be sold locked (and subsidized) by carriers.

They want the iphone killer, but like the iphone force ppl onto O2 instead of been on all networks.
Had they not done this they could have grabbed ALL customers none O2 and some from O2 not willing to pay the big $$ for the iphone.

On a side note, I think that now every major UK Network has at least one phone based on Linux. T-Mobile has the G1 and the G1Touch (their version of the Hero), Vodafone has the Magic, Orange has the Hero, and now O2 have the Pre. Oh wait, I forgot about 3. As to why, think about the end of their 6-month deal with Sprint; I'd guess the T-mobile USA and AT&T versions are the same hardware as the European GSM models (quad-band!), so they've timed production around that.]]>Jul 7th 2009 6:16AM
