This is one of the main reasons I got the sonos system in the first place. my house has MAJOR interference for wireless. I have 5 sonos points and 2 controllers (plus the ipod touch and phone). my 802.11n wifi doesn’t even reach the middle of our house let alone the far end. Cabling is prohibitively expensive due to house location and design. the sonos system covers the whole house inside and outside, so I can control everything from anywhere whether its sync play across multiple locations or just one zone in the living room. The battery life/sleep mode of the controller means it lasts for ages without a charge.

my ipod/phone is limited in access due to the interference, but even when it is in range I usually find myself grabbing a sonos controller simply because I find it faster to use (except for text searching, the MAIN problem with the click wheel interface). Of course my library is well organised by artist/album so I usually go straight to what I want. any serious playlist/internet radio favourite management is done for the desktop sonos controller software.

I also run media from a standalone RAID NAS drive that is always on whereas my computers are probably off. It is also 1 location for all my computers to access media. As I am outside the US, no streaming paid media for me, damn you rhapsody/pandora/etc

When in the yard, I can change zones on/off as I move around the house while working to move sound with me as the sonos net extends outside for the controller. I can get my roaming zone and put it outside with a power extension cable and a couple of speakers and link it if I am having a party/etc that extends further from the house.

you can also use the controller as a range finder for the sonos net zone setup and positioning. Its water resistant for around the pool or in the kitchen.

For me it is perfect and there isn’t anything else that suits. I would get one new controller simply for the sonosnet integration with typing ability.

I wouldn’t recommend this system to everyone as people have different requirements but as a totally standalone, computer independent, wide area, easily manageable (particularly individual kids rooms) system, it’s fantastic.

The price sucks.

darrenisafanboi

Comments on Sonos CR200 remote control's product page reveals capacitive screen, $349 price tag

^ "The price sucks"

That would have sufficed.

Freedom Town

Comments on Sonos CR200 remote control's product page reveals capacitive screen, $349 price tag

yes but if I just said "the price sucks" then you would not have understood the coolness of the sonos system.

the price sucks but I'll still buy one.
