ive been using an asus notebook off and on recently and when i am indoors i have to tilt the screen at funny angles just to see ... and taking it outdoors is pretty much useless even with the battery draining while the screen is on full.

Old matte screen were made out of plastic. I can touch my desktop LCD and see it wiggle below my finger.

Why is glass better than plastic? Because it doesn't wobble when you touch it? You shouldn't be touching your screen anyways, and I'm sure the glass is a lot more fingerprint prone than plastic.

One of the things I have always loved about MacBook Pros is how that aluminium body and solid construction make them durable and semi-rugged. All that goes away if when you drop it your screen shatters. For reasons already said the matte plastic is better for usability, but it also doesn't shatter, or get as many fingerprints on it.

A quick example of a model outside of Lenovo, with LED backlit screen that is preatty good for a laptop with anti-glare, matte screen film, with similar power and features of some Apple Mac Book Pro (including ambient light sensor and back-lit keyboard, metal base and screen lid (sadly not the palm rest)), would be the Dell Latitude E series. The Toshiba looks like a cheap (and thick) turd next to a MacBook Pro. Which is fine - some people are happy with cheap (and thick) turds for their computing needs. No, but I'm fairly sure that some aluminum and glass doesn't come to a cost of over $500. As for OSX, that was pretty much my whole point; with this improvement to the screen the only thing holding them back from having my very high esteem is the price. OSX is obviously the only reason people buy Apple computers so they price gouge which is the only thing I don't like about them(well... aside from some miscellaneous issues with signed zip files and inconsitencies with copying files). Maybe all the other notebook manufacturers will follow suit! I went into Best Buy the other day to browse the current market selection, and I sh!t you not, EVERY notebook on display had a glossy screen.
