Palm Pre now available from Sprint online, activity avoided
Hey, it's hot out there. While you could lather-up into a deep dish of epidermal man-gravy by trucking on over to the nearest brick-and-mortar, why not kick back on-line with Sprint for that new Palm Pre purchase? Sure, you'll still have to mail-in the $100 rebate, but last we checked, licking a stamp won't break a sweat.

I got mine already join the club YO!!
This is BIG news for people who are interested in the Pre! Thanks, Engadget.
The other important piece to this is that the phone is now available on the Everything Plus Referral program as well, which is what I was waiting for.
I had it on the everything plus referral plan since launch. I just had to make a call to customer service after I left the store to have them switch my account back to the referral plan.
HTC TOUCH PRO2 fTW!!!!!
Exactly thats why you go to Best Buy,stamps not required
Were The Apple Fanboy Comments At? Im Suprised you guys have not jumped on this article
Don't tempt fate. You know what Paul Chapel is like.
This isn't breaking news, as I saw it on site a couple days ago, but any Pre news is good news on Engadget... now that the SDK is public...maybe the Pre can get some Mojo around here. Apple Fanboys? You know those slackers don't get up at this time in the morning. Starbucks don't open up to AT LEAST 6am.
This is great and all, but I'm still waiting on that fart app...
there's been one for a few days now...

Man-gravy?
One of Thomas' better analogies for sweat
Actually, epidural man-gravy would probably be a cerebrospinal fluid leak. Perhaps "epidermal" would have been a better choice....

Better than "baby batter"?
@Fubar, Ah! auto-spell check swapped out my (mis-spelled) word. updated. -- Thomas
@Thomas Ricker: I've had to disable autocorrect on my computers both at work and at home. I use a fair number of medical terms and acronyms (perhaps too many...), and the substitutions have generally caused me more trouble than they've saved.
You know, this is 2009 already. Why are we still dealing with mail-in rebates? What a joke. People that want the Pre should go to Bestbuy instead. Main-in rebates are scams.
Ok, I'm curious about these mail-in rebates because we don't have them over in the UK; why do you guys have to pay more at the checkout and then get your money back later? Surely this kinda of practice should have been outlawed ages ago.
Best Buy has come a long way. Just a few short years ago Best Buy was the world capital of mail-in rebate scams. Over half the stuff in their flyer every week would have a mail-in rebate of some kind attached (even
[less than sign]$20 cheap items) and it wasn't at all uncommon for them to run out of rebate forms before they ran out of the item.
... apparently the left angle bracket will bring an abrupt end to your Engadget comment. Good to know.
@Orinjz
Because the company can bet on quite a few people forgetting to mail in the rebate, so that's more money for them. Plus, if you figure Sprint has sold at least a few hundred thousand Palm Pre's; that could be like an extra 30 million in the bank that collects interest for a few months.
On top of that, the increase you pay at the counter can have interest earned on it before they pay you back 4-6 weeks later.
The same reason insurance companies take months to give you your money. More interest. Plus people will forget to mail it in. Yes I would like to shoot the person who came up with the mail in rebate idea.
It's more insidious than just earning interest on your money. I don't know all of the ins and outs, but there are several angles. One, you pay more tax when you check out (on the higher price tag). Also the company can report the entire amount as earnings. They can then report losses from the rebates as operating expense. Another reason is inventory. A company with 1000 widgets 'valued' @ $100 has twice as much in assets as a company with the same 1000 widgets valued @ only $50. I'm sure if you google it, there's got to be articles on the purpose(s) of it (I'm too lazy). But it's more advantageous for a company to sell item X @ $100, then give you $50 back than it is to simply give it to you for $50.
That's good! Though, does that mean that employees are closer to being able to buy one?
@jjbecerra
Although going to bestbuy doesn't require a mail-in rebate an activation fee will be required $36. So it just depends if you have the money and don't mind waiting about a month and half to get $100 back and you save $36, or if you don't have the extra $100 but do pay the activation fee.
"lather-up into a deep dish of epidural man-gravy"
That's not what Urban Dictionary says:
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=man+gravy
Reading the article again, I just threw up in my mouth a little.
Well, you know how it is. Some people like the Palm Pre, others _really_ like it.
I finally played around with one of these last night. Didn't realize it would feel so cheap and toy-like.
I seriously hope you get paid by the post. Otherwise, it is just sad.
@stephen
Well then stop playing with yourself.
I won't buy anything with mail in rebate, no exceptions.
Then go to Best Buy or RadioShack.
Hmm, more up front than an iPhone....
YAY News about the Sprint Touch Pro 2!! Ohhhhh Wait. WAHHHHHH!!
"While you could lather-up into a deep dish of epidural man-gravy"
Does Tom know what man-gravy means? epidural or not...ewwwwwww.
Actually I bought 4 Pre's on launch (6th) & I got my rebate checks about 3 days ago...I use Sprint rebates alot since I'm a premier cust. & receive 150 towards a new phone yearly & they are always very fast & reliable
When was the last time you bought stamps that you had to lick? All the ones sold around here are self-adhesive.
yea i was thinking the same thing
Who on earth would pay $549.00 (regular price) for a piece of plastic junk like the Pre? WebOS is sweet but the hardware just plain sucks. Way too much plastic. Just waiting to break and contort into all sorts of positions. FAIL Palm.
Is that the best you have?
Given the variable wobble factor I'd think the informed consumer would want to get one of these in person.
Blah. SERO owners are left out, so seeya later Palm and good luck.
HTC Touch Pro 2 here I come.
