It's not really that surprising given its
investment in Clearwire, but Time Warner Cable is now ready to join in on the
WiMAX fun. The company plans to resell the mobile broadband in four US cities by the end of the year, but so far it's only revealed two of them: Charlotte, North Carolina, and Dallas, Texas. Meanwhile, cable competitor
Comcast has already opened up its WiMAX shop in Portland, Oregon, and plans to hit Atlanta, Chicago, and Philadelphia by the end of this year. No word on prices, but we don't expect it to stray far from the current $20 to $50 monthly fees. We're also a bit in the dark as to when we can expect the rollout this year, so if you're in one of those two markets and have a strong itch for 4G wireless, better start filling up that piggy bank now, just to be safe.
Nothing good ever happens around me... :(
I just moved from Fort Mill - a suburb of Charlotte (to Spokane, WA) and I couldn't even get Time Warner. I was just across the border in South Carolina and you can only get cable from Comporium which is lacking when it comes to broadband offers.
Maybe they can spend the money they make to maybe keep my internet and cable up for more then 2 hours at a time! http://twitter.com/DumpTimeWarner
I'm in Charlotte, but I still won't get this. Clearwire's biggest problem is that it's not available in the highest population density areas because the big buildings block the signal. Also, the prices are worse than TWC.
It's good for a mobile solution if you never come downtown, but otherwise I just don't see the point.
hello
...
Anybody else ever get billed by Time Warner for PPV movies they didn't purchase? I know of several others besides myself and I'm wondering how widespread it is.
Tell your kids to stop watching movies without your permission.
Use parental controls, simple as that
I don't have kids and my girlfriend was not home, so unless the dog is staying up late watching PPV, I'm pretty sure no one ordered them.
Careful, Bob, or one of these days you could wake up dead. A ninja infestation is no laughing matter.
I have inside knowledge of the cable system. They should be able to provide you with specifics on when the program was ordered, specific time and which box. If you ever paused or rewound the program they can provide you with that log as well. You will most likely have to go into the office to see that though as it is proprietary information.
Better question....why Charlotte? Bankers cant live without it.
That's an ironic comment. Charlotte is the second biggest banking industry after New York...
hi
Meanwhile.....People still wait for LTE...Whenever that gets around
maybe you haven't heard verizon is trying to have their lte network completely rolled out by the end of next year.
Time warner has the worst customer service in the world.
I was all but floored that we are getting this in Charlotte. Wohoo!
Clearwire has been in Charlotte for a long time and will continue to do well for one simple reason, Verizon and ATT are dragging their feet. People just don't want to hook up a home phone just to get DSL and Time Warner's cable cable internet upload speed is stuck at 200kbs if your lucky. I have one clearwire I keep in the car just in case I need internet and im not in a 3G zone, clearwire alwasys seem to be there.
AYE CROWN TOWN LOL...............
yea excuse me for that unnecessary outburst but Charlotte is my hometown................
I live in Concord(the one on the map) and I was hoping WiMAX would be my way out of Time Warner. As it stands Time Warner is my only option besides cell data. I could get DSL but it is rather poor around here and requires a home phone. So I'm stuck paying Time Warner $50 a month for good download speed, but absolutely horrible upload speed that when I hit the max, I kill my download speed. Why, with all the technology these days, can I download at 1.2MB/s but as soon as I hit 40KB/s up my download goes to 0B/s? God forbid I do any crazy pirate activities like video chat in Skype, or host a teamspeak server for my friends!
