It should also have built in wifi since that's a pain to hook it up to ethernet.
100-200 for a streamer.
200 for 360
75 for wifi module.

It's a very complete system. Here's why I like it the most: I can remux any downloaded mkv with tsmuxer to a .m2ts file which can be played on the ps3. Not only can it be played, it takes 3 minutes max ( on an old single core ) and has 0 loss of quality. Not only that, you can copy the movie onto the ps3's built in hard drive. That to me is fantastic.

If they do drop the price to 300 with a slim model I fear it will be of lower quality. That's the main thing I dislike about the ps3. While the newer models are quieter, they lose SACD/DVD audio support and PS2 support. That's to cut costs I suppose, but it's still a shame. I think the new ps3 will have a cheaper matte finish and may have some things removed from it.

Note: I like my 360 as well, but saying a 150 dollar blu ray player and a 150 dollar used 360 ( have fun with the RROD ) is just like the ps3 is silly. I got the RROD and got an instant exchange at costco, I'd hate to have to ship it off and pay 150 dollars like you have to if you buy used.

andi

Comments on PS3 manufacturing costs down 70 percent? Here in Australia the PS3 60gb was $999 on release and for what it offered I found it cheaper considering a Blu-Ray player was like $699 or so for a very good one. The 40gb and 80GB ps3's are now $699 and I still find that cheap considering: No red rings of death, no external power supply brick, free online gaming, Blu-Ray, the looks and so much more.

random

Comments on PS3 manufacturing costs down 70 percent? If a PS3 does cost $240 to make, then a $299 slim would be a huge welcome to not only the complainers about the price, but also Sony's bank account. I don't blame them for not lowing the price right now. They got to get back some of their money they lost. hence the $399/$499 PS3's. thatd be about a $150-$200 profit. multiple that by a few hundred thousand. Can't wait for GamesCon. Hopefully a big announcement. I'll buy the slim if it comes out this holiday. 2 PS3s!

Dustin

Comments on PS3 manufacturing costs down 70 percent? I mean what first party titles are coming out in the near future that are going to sell xboxs? I dont see anything. MS has crackdown, sony has infamous! MS has halo, sony has resistance and killzone which look much better. MS has forza, sony has gran turismo and motorstorm. MS has ??? and sony has uncharted! Sony still could win this console war if they make strong moves right now. It has to be right now cause time is ticking. I am much happier with sonys first party games then ms's and thats the most important since almost all third party titles come out on both.

johnny

Comments on PS3 manufacturing costs down 70 percent? Sony's main problem is not its lack of exclusives (though that is a part of it).

PSN sucks. It sucks. It sucks. It sucks. I cannot repeat this enough times. THIS is the thing that is killing Sony beyond anything else (though the high price of entry hurts too).

But I'm not just gonna randomly complain, here are some (but not all) of the reasons why PSN blows:

- Poor integration into play. Friend sends me a message while I'm playing a game. On Xbox I hit the Xbox button, it brings up the text of the message immediately. Another press of the button dismisses it. On PS3? Hit the PS3 button, surf on over to the Friends tab, scroll down to Messages, select Inbox, and then scroll to the meesage I want to read and THEN hit X to read it. WTF? SERIOUSLY?

- ZERO support for parties, ZERO out-of-game support for invites. Say I'm playing Halo. A friend comes online and invites me to join a GoW match. Notification pops onto screen, I hit my Xbox button and accept. Boom, swap a disc and I'm in the game. Easy peasy. On PS3? I get a message in my Inbox: "YOU HAVE BEEN INVITED, START X GAME!". I start the game, but instead of asking me to join this match I'm being invited to, the game is blissfully unaware that anything has happened. I go into "play with friends" (game specific, which makes it all very confusing) and HOPE the matchmaking system works and doesn't do something dumb like put me on opposite teams with my friend (*COUGH*Battlefield1943).

- On the other hand, the PSN store UI is a lot better than the Xbox Live purchasing UI. Kudos to Sony on this one. If only there was anything worthwhile on the PSN store...

Oh, and as good as Resistance was, it has nothing on the hype and popularity around Halo. Comparing the two simply doesn't fly.

potato

Comments on PS3 manufacturing costs down 70 percent?
