Samsung YP-R0 outed, not exactly groundbreaking
In the vein of the previous yawnfest, the YP-R1, Samsung's apparently got this baby -- the YP-R0 -- on the decks as well. Maybe it's just the naming scheme that bores us -- after all, it's not a bad-looking slim little device, with a 2.6-inch touchscreen display, and this model will supposedly house 8GB of storage, an RDS FM tuner, a microphone, plus a microSD card slot. It'll support a host of formats, including MP3, OGG, WMA, ASF, FLAC, WAV, AAC, MPEG4, WMV, JPEG, PNG, BMP, and GIF -- just to name a few. The whole thing weighs in at about 60 grams, and is expected to run about €130 (about $183) when it is made available, though we don't know yet when that will be. There's one more shot after the break.

overpriced average machine, that's why no mp3 player beats ipod, yet.
Overpriced? in the UK atleast Samsungs current players are ~£20-45 cheaper for comparable players and for the price of the Nano you can get their 3" touchscreen YP-P3. The only thing they don't have is advertising (and good design sense with this player, the player would look much better if the brushed aluminium was glossy plastic instead) because their players are usually cheaper and have better sound/build quality then iPods, just noone knows they exist (oh and because most are used to the abomination which is itunes which doesn't like you using music you bought on anything other then an iPod).
Oh please, my 3 year old YP-T9 sounds better than a current generation iPods, and it supports Bluetooth stereo. iPods only sell more because of Apple marketing and most consumers don't know any better.
It always gives me a giggle when anyone criticizes a product as "overpriced" and then praises an Apple product. Do these people not know the meaning of "ironic."
@htd: oh sure but stick a fruit on the back of it and you'd be running to stand in line for it right?
P.S.: "not exactly groundbreaking"?...... because its not Apple?
Yep Samsung make some great stuff but its just so run of the mill. Just like their phones, they have a million and 1 and none of them are memorable.
This looks like a great device with a good feature set, if this was touted as the next iPod Nano people would be raving about.
Goes to show correct marketing goes a long way towards effectivly selling your product. Oh and not releasing a ton of different models too.
Looks sub par - I need a new phone though
It's got the Zune squircle. copiers
I love me some squircle. :D
The whole "round shape in the middle" thing probably came from the design of the original iPods.
I don't see why you'd go for one of these over the 16GB YP-P3 which can be had for the same money. Got one a few weeks ago - a solid bit of kit with excellent audio quality and a nice 3" LCD.
The price of this device will drop fairly quickly. Always happens with Samsung players.
I agree, the P3 is an excellent media player.
@Engadget
I don't see how this is a yawn fest. More supported audio codecs than most crappy (yet surprisingly successful) mp3 players out of there.
well, Danny, most people have no clue what a codec is, and unfortunately, those are the people trying to buy a DAP/PMP
and yes, the P3 rules!
does it support atrac??
Samsung has very good quality in their products.
They have already capitalized on phones and televisions.
Music players, cameras, and laptops will be their next bet.
"Vane," not "vein."
Don't judge a book by its cover. If this thing has a bookmark feature and skip function to jump through long audio files, like my old and long ready to be replaced Samsung YP-T8 that only has 1 GB, I'm buying it!
But oh what a nice cover it is!
Rainbow Star Datacasts are the future.

Sounds like it's pretty well packed with WIN. Hard to find PMP's that play FLAC & OGG (my two most preferred formats). Just needs wifi for streaming podcasts and it'll be perfect.
Agreed.
