LG is killing with their S-Class UI, and Samsung is getting some traction with the Touchwhiz UI.

Sure, companies like Samsung, iriver, and Cowon are not doing as well as Apple in the PMP market (I don't think Zunes are doing that well..?), but they are doing pretty good considering they are playing in non-local markets. And they do very well in Korea, much better than iPods.

And speaking of support, if you've owned Samsung's YP-P2, you'd know that they put out a new firmware every 3 months, often adding new software (like a full-on dictionary and flash games) and improving UI speeds.

Zune is a fail, and iPods are popular because their ecosystem is very popular in the Western market. Now if no one could compete with them, then I would hazard a guess that they would stop making PMPs? Now what I don't get is why Apple hasn't done anything new in the last couple years. They haven't released anything new in the portable media sector since the ipod touch (gen 2 was just an update, hardly new) Whereas I see a bunch of other companies developing awesome products that from a hardware abilities standpoint kill anything Apple is offering in the price segment. Sure, the touch has access to the APP store, but the Zune HD is going to be able to connect with the 360 and to Live, so I'm betting its going to have a ton of games available fairly quickly. Since if they set it up right, most of the games already in Xbox live Arcade can be ported to it. ^_^ That and the audio quality on the ipods just suck, I mean its fairly decent if you record your files at the highest bit rate, but the DAC in there is just incredibly lacking :P

Tripp

Comments on Samsung M1 PMP to challenge Zune HD with some Tegra of its own?

Maybe it can't compete with apple in terms of sales. I am tired of their mediocrity so what the ipod has an app store wow... the main purpose of an MP3 player is TO PLAY MP3's but no one seems to be satisfied with that anymore MP3 players and phones now have to be an all-in-one device... Personally i'm looking forward to this Samsung M1, like someone stated in an earlier comment i belong to that group of individuals that dislike i tunes i prefer drag & drop and besides it is the other companies besides apple who really put nice PMP's out there they dont give you revisions of the same crap... that's what apple does if any one has noticed they may change the look of the ipod.. one year it is small & fat, the next it is tall & skinny wow im amazed not! same ipod and nothing has changed i must admit though Apple is good at what they do they are similar to Nintendo they feed you the same crap repeatedly.. dont get me wrong they have great products i personally love my Macbook Pro but im no fanboy i have a Windows PC as well im loyal to no company i buy what suits my needs and the ipod doesn't give me what i want that's what it really comes down to at the end getting what you want from a product, yet some people assume just because they like something that everyone else will

Eroded Fallacy
