The Ion is all but stillborn in a netbook form factor anyway; the S12 still hasn't appeared, and not one, but two variants have been announced, one of which is a successor (Ion 2 and Ion LE). It's hard to compare a desktop with a laptop. The former stays at home. The latter is meant to be taken with you. Its easy to get a good build with a Core2Duo processor for $650.  It has pretty much the same graphics engine and it pretty thin.
