I will not be buying one of these for that very reason!

Yea, I'm familiar with 1080p, its fine for TV, but leave our computers alone. Surrouding HD video with 120px of black bar is perfectly acceptable.

If these are the cheapo monitors, then fine, but don't let this take over the screen market.

Colin Harrington

Comments on Dell quietly launches trio of widescreen LCD monitors, waits for you to notice

A useless 50,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio?

Are you serious? I bought the S2309W a few weeks ago but returned it because of the most annoying thing ever. There is a HDMI feature on that monitor called Audio Power Save, and whenever there is a brief moment of no sound activity, this "feature" activates. Once the sound returns, instead of the sound coming back instantly, it FADES in like 5 seconds later. WTF is that all about? This feature would commonly activate in between commercials or during loading screens on my 360. So freaking annoying.

There was a menu option to turn this feature off, but it wouldn't actually turn off when set to off. So I called them up and returned it for a full refund. The dell rep was all like... "yeah.........about that..." It was a known issue so I got my full refund bitches. I'm gonna take my chances and order this new one. Hopefully dell didn't screw up on this one too.

angeL

Comments on Dell quietly launches trio of widescreen LCD monitors, waits for you to notice

Correction, I meant S2409W.

angeL

Comments on Dell quietly launches trio of widescreen LCD monitors, waits for you to notice

the 2209wa is still for sale it just is not available since it sells out every single time and there are limited e-ips panels available.

Dell wouldn't keep putting it for sale at less that it's full price if they were going to discontinue it.
As it stands it normally is $229 or less not the full price of $279, so if Dell stopped making and selling it wouldn't demand dictate to sell the limited remaining stock at the higher price?

I have one and it is probably the best monitor under 24" around these new models are not the UltraSharp that the 2209wa and the 2408wfp are so they are not even the premium models just run of the mill TN FullHD crap for cheap.

Also 16:10 1920x1200 is better for computer monitors since both 1920x1080 and 1600x1200 fit without any scaling so standard size page layout fits and is proportional and so do 16:9 videos

And yeah I said videos since Films are 1.85:1, 2.31:1, 2.35:1, 2.40:1 and HDTV is 1.78:1 (aka 16:9) so most dvds and blu-ray is not going to fill a whole 1920x1080 screen without letterboxing so I'd rather have the extra pixels and more versatile layout options that 16:10 affords than have a 16:9 monitor hell even game support is better for 16:10 resolutions than 16:9 ones.

mr.gabriel.serna

Comments on Dell quietly launches trio of widescreen LCD monitors, waits for you to notice

Is it too much to ask for an S or H-IPS panel in a 22, 23, or 24" pkg that supports 1920x1080. Yes, 16x10 in case you weren't paying attention to your prosumer media customers. We dont need compromises in value with shitty speakers, extra usb ports, or anything else but a couple dvi, hdmi and vga port for good measure. Thats it. Maybe apple will end up with my business but if something launches in the $300-500 pricepoint you will sell a ton.
