We already knew that NVIDIA had to shell out anywhere from
$150 to
$250 million last year to resolve issues related to its
defective GPUs, but it looks like that may have only been the beginning, with
The Inquirer now reporting that the company has also been forced to pay an additional $119.1 million over the past four months to fix a faulty die and weak packaging material used in the affected graphics chips. What's more, NVIDIA apparently won't say whether it expects to incur any further charges related to the defective chips or not, although it simply describes the whole situation as "small distraction," and says it hasn't affected its ability to launch new products.
do u think that because 3rd partys like bfg, xfx, and others make nvida gpu it could be one of the thrid party nvida cards that y'all have that or failing like say PNY,EVGA,
I know that my $1500 Sony vaio vgn-ar520e with an nvidia 8400m GT is a piece of $&@!...
Not to mention that Sony hasn't upgraded the graphics drivers for my laptop once... And nvidia won't let me get their latest or any drivers off their site... I get the you need to go through the notebook manufacture to get the drivers message... Which to me is crap... I know about laptop video 2 go... But I shouldn't have to do that... Not for $1500...! Just had to vent sorry...! Lol.
I'll believe that immediatly
I just sent my PC back while Im in my 23th month and I only get bluescreens due to graphic driver failure ...
even linux wont work
Ive got GT8800 and read that it has lots of issues
hope they will put another card as a replacement :S
I have a 8400gs that started acting up real bad in vista and 7 everytime video acc kicked in would randomly act up checked gpu temp and at "idle" was 72c so I pulled the stock heatsink and fan off and bolted a heatsink off an and k62 onto it works great now from 350mhz core to 789 MHz core now. For a laptop user this might not be the ideal solution. If you have some room below your pcie slot " fills almost 2 PCI slots can be a fix until I can get the budget chairwoman to see things my way.
