Its true that people have been using rapid fire well before this article, and its true that a number of people would have found out about rapid fire and likely used it. The problems here are as follows;

1)Engadget has a huge number of readers, this article just exposed the mod to a large amount of people that wouldn't have found it.
2)This isn't your average mod that the average person won't bother with, this can be utilized by anyone smart enough to use a screwdriver.
