Keepin' it real fake, part CCXXX: Inkia 500 is a mutated, hamstrung N810
How do you cook up the perfect KIRF product? Well, you take a well-loved device, say the Nokia N810, and start chopping off the things that made it a winner, like that oh-so-bulky QWERTY keyboard, until you get a device cheap enough to be sold as "the world's first MID under $300." The painfully unoriginal Inkia 500 -- which isn't even the first to rip off Nokia's internet tablet -- isn't entirely without merit, as it comes with a 5-inch touchscreen plus a ULV Atom processor, and once you pony up for 3G and GPS options it might even be useful. All that's holding it back now is the tiny issue that you can get a real N810 for the same price.

First!
Second!

You'd be doing better avoiding it just like you are avoiding the N810 already.
(Sorry the other dozen of you)
well im proud to be in that dozen (even tho i gave my n810 to my dad not too long ago... i got too much other stuff that gets the job done... like this kick ass touch pro 2 im typing on :D. shit's awesome)
More Beeeezeel!
Actually, though I'm a big N810 fan, this might be decent for those who were clamoring for an x86-compatible processor in the N900. However, that talk seems to have died down once Atom netbooks stormed the market and folks realized how sucky the battery life is.
Although this is really not very N810ish anyway, AFAICT.
Ok, so it doesn't really look like the N810, the hardware isn't similar and it runs windows. Yet it is still a copy of the N810?
I failed to see that much similarity either. Just because the name?
WOW...what is up with the jacka** articles coming from Engadget recently?? Especially the newer writers. Is there a secret bet you guys have to see who can spew out the most irrelevant posts?
I think Engadget wrote the title so we could have this discussion, have you guys looked at all those KIRF recently? They have become increasingly unpopular, so by calling a totaly different product as a KIRF it'll generate a healthy amount of comments.
What's it got to do with the N810? It's nothing like one, and it's not being sold as one.
Yes, but you can actually run some useful software on this thing, since it runs full windows xp!
The cheapest MID is probably the SmartQ 5, which sells for around $150.
http://www.chinesegadgets.net/2009/08/01/smartq-5-unboxing-and-first-impression/
This one might be the cheapest Windows based version though. The SmartQ 5 has a ARM processor and runs on Linux.
The Nokia 810 runs Windows XP slow. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wxqUOECxBNA I wonder if this runs Windows XP more efficiently.
Well, considering the N8X0 runs windows remotely, I would assume so.
The more we see of this Inkia 500 Mid, the better chance it has selling in USA or Canada.
I hope someone could have a chance to get their hands on one and make a demo review
on Youtube.
Then we will understand where this low cost Mid stands.
how is this an n810 clone? it runs windows xp.
original title - 'The First Sub-$300 Atom-based MID'
5-inch LCD touch screen supporting 800x480 resolution, supports up to 1GB DDR2 RAM, and has a 16GB SSD.
real FAKE 'keeping it real fake' article
CPU: ATOM Z510, 5" WXGA Touch Screen, 800x480, 1G DDR2 RAM, 16G SSD, WIFI, BLUETOOTH, GPS and 3G optional, USB X 2, TF slot, 0.3M webcam, optical touch pad?, 2 cell battery
Has nothing to do with Nokia 810, actually much more powerful the the Nokia 810, but the look needs some refinement.
"WXGA"
you keep using that word... i dont think you know what it means.
WVGA?
What in the world? What's up Savov, not having a clear head? This is nothing like the n810 in any way. Seriously is this a joke or did engadget hire a mental ill patient?
chill out... if you dont think it looks like one then fine, but no need to bash him or engadget for it. to each his own, ya digg :/
Sorry but this article made me truly mad which never happened before. It's utterly nonsense.
Hmmm, after looking a bit better at both devices, how is this a knock-off of the N810?
The differences:
- The N810 has a full QWERTY keyboard
- The Inka 500 has a X86 processor, allowing it to run XP without a slow emulator
- The Inka 500 has 16GB SSD vs 2GB Flash of the N810
- The Inka 500 has a 4 way button on the front of the device
- The Inka 500 has 2 speakers on the front of the device
- The Inka 500 has 3 LED indicators on the top left
- The Inka 500 has two full-size USB ports vs 1 USB OTG port on the N810
- The Inka 500 has two mouse buttons on the left
- The N810 has an ambient light sensor
- The N810 has GPS
- The N810 has a 4.13" screen vs a 5" screen on the Inka 500
Besides that, the designs are totally different. Even the Samsung Mondi looks more like the N810.
The N810 seems to be overpriced compared to devices like the SmartQ (double the price for a keyboard and GPS), while the Inka 500 with it's X86 processor seems to have a good price voor what it's offering (full XP compatibility).
This is probably the worst KIRF article on Engadget.
@ Skyblaze:
Who keep using it? You big fat liar?
Gee, so you know what WXGA is, and you just can't help but show it off, could you? Mr.know-it-all? Jerk.
heeeeyyyy chill out >.< i was just tryna point out that WXGA is a way higher res than 800x400.... and i believe you meant W*V*GA. you made a mistake... and i was just using a pointless snarky reference in an attempt to notify you of your error through humor... which... failed obviously *facepalm*. sorry if i came off mean... its all good though, right? :D
and to add to my failure...i typed it wrong. it goes: "You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means."
my bad... again -__-'
Hey, look!
Windows Firewall has something something.
That's a first!
KIRF is important concept here because it highlights the leaders and outs the followers. A device that runs Windows XP (not much proof) and is more powerful than the 810 is not a mere copy. Please revise the title for accuracy. I say ask the company for a device and review it.
Is there a way to block specific blogger on engadget? This blog entry is so ignorance. For one thing, it doesn't copy any of n810's button layout. Not one bit at all.
Second, it runs XP, its power can destroy the n810 ten times over and still can walk home on time to catch the dinner. Just so you know I am a n800 owner for 3 years so I know enough of the Maemo platform to call you out you lame junior blogger.
Um yeah. Engadget's editorial staff is getting a bit too "snarky" for their own good. It seems that every single headline suffers a heavy dose of sarcasm, whether or not there's any real need for it.
Maybe it's just me, but I'm a bit burned out hearing how every single netbook released since last December is "horribly average".
Perhaps we can save the opine and focus on the facts, even if they don't include some piece of bleeding edge, but usually completely useless (augmented freaking reality?!) tech?
(And lastly, how about a comments system developed in this century?!)
I think that a bit of Gizmodo idiocy is overflowing to here.
I really hope Engadget put they act together, cause I already left Gizmodo because of this things. I don't want to left Engadget too.
Engadget should just stick to reporting the facts. Op-Ed is really not their strong suit.
I hope that the iTablet doesn't look like this.
