I tried it using my wifi connection, worked like a charm! very useful for people who'd attend press conferenes or private events!
Too bad that it doesn't support the same features on the 3gS... If the new iPod Touch has a video camera... kiss the Flip camera goodbye.

Even if you had to wait until you get to a WIFI hotspot to upload your videos... it will still be worth it.

Sure... it won't be 720p... but as long as it's 640x480 and can upload to Youtube and Facebook over WIFI... it's a game-changer.

Nobody will buy a Flip camera for $149 when you can get an iPod Touch with video, music, web browsing and WIFI for $229.

I think you're underestimating the video that comes out of these small cameras... especially the iPhone video camera.

The best camcorder is the one you have with you... which is why pocket camcorders are so popular today. Nobody is carrying a MiniDV camcorder all the time.

Oh, I see... you were talking about HD. Well... there are plenty of pocket camcorders that record in HD. But you have to carry an HDMI cable with you wherever you go. And hope that everywhere you go has an HDTV. Not all pocket camcorders have WIFI... so you have to get back to a computer to upload it. And if you do have a pocket camcorder with WIFI... that's all it does. You carry it in your pocket and it's only a camcorder.

The rumors suggest that the new iPod Touch will have a camera... and the iPhone 3GS already has a camcorder that can upload video to the internet. Having the ability to upload video over WIFI would be a bonus for the iPod Touch. That's the game-changer part I was hinting at... it's an iPod, *and* a pocket video camera.

The Flip Camera and all of the other pocket camcorders do what they are supposed to do... provide ease of use and convenience. You're not gonna shoot National Geographic quality video with a pocket camcorder... and you shouldn't expect that the letters "HD" stamped on a camera provide miracles.

So, yes... I would rather have an iPod Touch with a standard-definition video camera and the ability to edit and upload video over WIFI... than a separate Flip MinoHD that I had to plug into a computer.

Even if people do own a Touch the odds are that they also have a smartphone that does the job better. And who's to say that the new iPod touch will have the same camera? The touches have been getting quiet hardware bumps over the iPhone since the beginning. They have a faster processor than the 3G, stronger bluetooth radios, and more memory. Perhaps Apple will release a touch with a processor like the 3GS, and include a 720p camera and a 64GB drive.

With a $99 3G and a $200 3GS, they have to set the touch hardware apart. A better camera, faster processor, and more memory would be a start. How is it pointless? There are many pocket camcorders that you have to plug into a computer. The Flip camcorder has a USB plug that pops out of the device. Others use USB cables! And how hard is it to find WIFI? I think you'd find more WIFI hotspots than the one place your computer is. If you shoot a bunch of video with a Flip Camera, and have to go to your computer, plug it in, and open up the FlipShare software... wouldn't it just be easier to walk into WIFI zone and send the videos to YouTube directly from the device over WIFI?

Yes, smartphones can shoot video and upload it. But I have yet to see a smartphone that shoots 640x480 30fps that looks as good as a pocket camcorder. And would you like to upload that over 3G? How many people use a Flip Camera and a computer to upload, versus a smartphone and 3G? My Blackberry Curve shoots video at 240x176, and it looks like crap. The newest Blackberry Tour shoots 480x352, but how many of those do people have? You've seen the video quality of the iPhone 3Gs on Youtube... its great considering it's a phone and a camcorder.

The world doesn't care, because many of the world's telcos don't lock phones to their networks nor make non-competitive deals with phone makers to screw their customers. Yeah, we pretty much do whatever we want with our phones. It's funny how an advanced country like the US have an incredibly backward telecoms industry.

I agree that engadget is a little Apple-heavy at times, but there's a reason for that.

It's not news when an open platform (like Android) gets a new App. It's like saying "A blue car just went down the highway." People make apps, and then they can be put on the phone.

Apple Apps like this are news because people have to bitch and moan and jump through hoops to get Apple to approve anything innovative and cool. We can have 1500 tip calculators, but no streaming video now. That's why it's news. It's news because companies are actually changing their business models to get on the iPhone. Ustream doesn't STREAM. Qik is now barely better than the built in camera. It just adds twitter and Facebook to the list of upload spots.
