When you think of laptops for mobile computing, and desktops (be they tower-and-monitor, or 10-pound "laptop") for desk-work, or as backends for serious work from the portables, 12-15" looks like a "normal" size to me.

The point of netbooks to many, including me, is that they permitted a transition from ogling expensive Japanese machines (most of which were never released stateside, adding to the problem), while toting a brickish 15" laptop, to owning one or even several highly-portable machines. The cost? A rather more marked performance hit vs. the highend T&Ls, but still plenty of horsepower for what I do.

A 12" machine for $500+? Great, but make it a fully-capable laptop, or better yet a convertible tablet ala HP's TX2500 and successor (can't remember the name), and I'll make it my serious-business laptop. Just _don't_ call it a netbook, and don't phase out the real netbooks -- 9" and smaller machines that I can both afford and sling under my jacket.

Oh, and this baby? Well, to be honest, even with my netbooks, I've still been ogling the Fujitsu U820 -- but I just might quit if I can get one of these. It looks mighty fine.

Benson

Comments on Suzuki Neutron 701 MNI ultranetbook mounts a 7-inch touchscreen

@Mike

great find! im looking for laptops like that. just needs windows 7 on it and that would be pretty damn sweet.

KRIS_C_123

Comments on Suzuki Neutron 701 MNI ultranetbook mounts a 7-inch touchscreen

I don't think this will sell very well in the US...

google

Comments on Suzuki Neutron 701 MNI ultranetbook mounts a 7-inch touchscreen

suzuki??
they use a dell d600 series laptop for the home page.. Right there you have more innovation than i've seen in the netbook market all year ! I don't get why tablet netbooks have to have the Atom Z though... it's like we're going backwards in processing power right where/when we needed a bit more juice to deal with touch gestures / handwriting.

Also, the 2 SODIMM sockets that support up to 4gb ram are very welcome ! Too bad 32 bit OSes will not take full advantage of that. Where on Earth did they cramp in all those ports and slots ? SATA and PATA ? The is probably the ultimate modding machine !
